I tried to like this but it really is utter rubbish. Watched the first season. Hopefully they will see sense and cut the show now. Promised a lot with a relatively strong cast but it really is very poor. The choice of theme music is very strange and doesn't fit at all. The story line makes little sense and if you are looking for any sort of historical accuracy here then you will be disappointed. Don't waste your time on this nonsense.

After nine episodes -- I can't believe I watched the whole thing, but I just wanted to find out how it would end -- you find out it simply goes nowhere, except for a few bizarre and pointless tangents that completely bloat out the last couple penultimate episodes.I could perhaps live with the total abandonment of the actual history of this campaign, but I can't forgive the pathetic plot.Reminds me of the latest season of The Vikings in its over-the-top drama but narrative pointlessness. But at least with Vikings we got some fairly decent entertainment out of the first few seasons, before the writers jumped the shark there. Here, they go for the camp by maybe the fourth episode, with it completely snowballing by the 7th or 8th?

Absolutely can not stand the music in the opening credits. The montage of images feels very retro and not in a good way. I wish Amazon had the "Skip Intro" button like Netflix to pass up this monstrosity. Other than this Britannia is a good watch. If you are sensitive to fowl language it's not a show for you. Don't take this show too seriously and try to hold it to history. It's a fantasy held in a setting that is recognizable. That's it. So hopefully the second season they throw out the hippy opening sequence and make something that makes more sense to the show.

The Donovan track over the opening credits tell you everything you need to know. It's a psychedelic journey through Celtic Britain, wonderful cast, Morrisey especially good, as is the hypnotic Kelly Rilley. The script is far more subtle than you first notice, this is not GOT, and thank god for that. You want historical accuracy? Look elsewhere, this is a beautifully shot dreamscape, jump on in.
