Terrific TV series, and a distinguished part of the canon of film about European youth during the War. Attend to the numerous views of 'youth being young', whether scoring love or approval--even in '30s Germany. The scene of 'high-school graduation' couples jumping hand-in-hand through a bonfire is a heart stopper,..as though it had happened 10,000 years ago.

This was a very well done movie about the Hitler youth and how it tore apart families by making the youth spy on the questionable loyalties of their parents. It was very moving and you felt the fathers pain as he was divided about his love for his son and his hatred for the Nazis.

I saw this when it first aired (English version) and was mesmerized by its portrayal of the rise of the Nazi party. Party propaganda reached all phases of family life. It was persistent, methodical, and effective. Wonderfully directed and acted. I think it is a classic in its portrayal of family life and the slow corrosive effect of propaganda. After watching it, I had a better understanding of how a targeted society can be perverted . one by one, family by family.I believe I have a copy of it on tape . have to visit the basement, find it, and replay it.
