If you watched 'Making a Murderer', and want a lighter version of it, you've got American Vandal. The last episode of American Vandal especially reinforces this. I think the makers could have included more LOL moments, but overall it is an entertaining watch.

Season One"American Vandal" is a spoof of the long form Netflix documentaries such as "Making A Murderer" that focuses on a high school incident where a penis is drawn on each member of the faculties car. Dylan, trouble maker and notorious penis graffiti artist is quickly identified as the perpetrator and is expelled. Two members of the AV club decide to properly investigate his guilt and their documentary becomes a school hit, putting them at odds with the teachers and some pupils, who don't like what the film discovers. The trouble with "American Vandal" is as it's a spoof, you would anticipate it being funny, when really it isn't. There are some minor laughs to be had in the first episode as the magnitude of the dick drawings comes to light, but once that is done, none of the characters (even king idiot Dylan) are drawn broadly enough to generate many laughs. That is not to say that the show isn't compelling. The formula that the show apes is so compelling I was drawn in to watch them all to find out what the truth about the situation was. The performances from the cast are good, earnest and realistic and the plot is actually quite clever, it's just a shame that better comedy writers weren't involved.

Who in the heck is giving this show 9 and 10 star ratings? I laughed through the first 15 minutes of Episode One, got a few chuckles after that, then it became quickly mundane. I honestly coudn't make it through Episode 2. Well, contrived humor is just not my jam. Do I have to keep talking to make it to the limit? LOL! I happen to aspire to be a very succinct person in my communication.

The crime was juvenile to say the least, then again, it was committed at a high school...so, I suppose not far off the mark as far as high school crimes go.They made a who 'dunnit about the crime and turned it into a drama series, which is OK, but when you think about the nature of the crime you really have to suspend reality to get serious about the detective work. The 2 kid sleuths were good, some interesting twists and turns here and there. Basically old style detective work with some CGI thrown in and a lot of spray paint.I like the raspy voiced kid accused of the crime played by Jimmy Tatro - he stole the show. Went on YouTube and found out Tatro is one funny guy. In light of the crime, they should have let Tatro be more like Tatro and had more fun with the series...added more subtle comedy to it. After watching Tatro on YouTube you realize this is a significant departure for him and he was good at it (being serious, sympathetic and vulnerable). All they made him do, in terms of comedy, was be physically vulgar when in fact, he is comically more capable than that.I mean, this wasn't CSI after all - they should have had a bit more fun with it.
