I had heard this recommended from various people. Knowing who made it, I had no idea what I was to expect."Was it interesting?" It's portrayal of the future is a almost Futurama level strange. It definitely gives a unique perspective.2 out of 3."Was it memorable?" Anything by Don Hertzfeldt is memorable in some way. The sound, the amazing artwork, the voice acting. I would ask for more, but would have probably overstayed it's welcome.2.5 out of 3."Was it entertaining?" Like most of Hertzfeldt, you are along for a ride. The bitter-sweet feel of the whole thing made it more poignant than most of this type of short.2 out of 3.Starting with 1 (because that's what my previous clone always did) 1 + 2 + 2.5 + 2 = 7.5 Giving this an 8 seems well deserved. There is so little to complain about it. Hope there is more like it in the future.

"World of Tomorrow" (United States, 17 min.) – This film tells its story by animating stick figures and laying them over simple, but colorful and imaginative backgrounds. A little girl who sounds like she's 3 or 4 is visited through her television set by a clone of herself (a few clone generations removed) from 200 years in the future. The future Emily tells "Emily Prime" about life in the future and how all this came to be, as well as taking Emily Prime into the TV so she can see a place called the "outer-net". This film is silly, but inventive, deriving its humor from the quirkiness of people in the future, their whimsical references to death and from the reactions of a toddler hearing and seeing things that adults would have a hard time understanding. The script also works in some social commentary and even a couple deep thoughts such as, "You only appreciate the present when it's the past." Enjoyable, but weird. "A-"

i first saw this at the IFC Center as part of a Oscar nominated short thing. i was very touched by the main character, Emily. i liked the animation and the story of World of Tomorrow. it was very amazing and somewhat emotional. i really hope this wins the Oscar because it touched me and i bet it will touch you heart too and i recommend going to see it because you will not regret seeing it and it will make you feel like a kid again. i also want to add that the actress who plays Emily did a very good job. i also liked the whole techno theme of the short. i loved the basic overall plot and i just loved everything about it. if you want something funny and sweet this movie is for you.

Don Hertzfeldt jump into digital animation is just further proof that he is one of the greatest living American filmmakers. The fact that Hertzfeldt works alone, this is just something he created (outside some voice acting) just by himself, on his computer is insane. Hertzfeldt creates a better sci-fi story than let's say Interstellar with barely any budget and just in 16 minutes. It really makes you wonder what Hertzfeldt is capable of. If he can do things like this just on his own, what would he do with a team of people working for him and if he had a budget. World of Tomorrow is one of the greatest animated shorts ever, and it just goes beyond on being just an animated short.
