'Wish Upon' is not an amazing movie nor is it terrible, the word that comes to mind is "good". It's a very mixed bag with some great scenes and some not so good scenes, but balances out to be a decent watch. The negatives of this movie lie in the endless cliches. A girl finds a magical music box and has seven wishes and what does she wish for? Money, popularity and the boy she likes to fall in love with her. It's unoriginal, boring and frustrating to watch. Adding to the cliches, the pretty, blonde popular girl of the school and her friends continuously bully the main character Claire. When it comes to the characters, it was once again a mixed bag. Clare was pretty likeable and relatable, despite her infuriating choices. Her friend Ryan was also likeable as was her father, but her friend Meredith was insufferable. After Clare made a wish for the school bully to "rot", Meredith continually sat around showing pictures of the girls rotting skin and proclaiming she was "ecstatic". Although, I did enjoy it when she called Clare out on the selfishness of the wishes she had made. Overall, I enjoyed following Clare throughout the movie and understood her decisions, even if I disapproved of them. As a young naive teenager she made the kind of wishes that most of us would in her position. At the start she was making wishes without really knowing how they were coming true or what the consequences were, so it was easier to forgive her for the silly wishes she was making, but when she learned the truth and STILL continued to make wishes, it was harder to sympathise with her. What's even worse is that when she was confronted about the damage she'd caused, she claimed she didn't believe in any of it and was just making the wishes for fun, despite the fact that there was conclusive proof that her wishes had all come true and a stack of bodies mounting up. I like that toward the end of the movie the darkness of her character was shown in her obsession with the box and unwillingness to give it up. She'd finally got a taste of the good life and she didn't want to give it up, which once again is understandable. The last half of the movie was much more enjoyable than the first half as it was slightly less predictable and Clare's character took a more interesting turn as she began to spiral under the weight of what her actions had caused. The last two wishes she made were much more understandable and showed that despite the shallow wishes she made in the beginning, she realised the power of the wishes and used them differently. By the end, she went had been on a journey that all characters in this position do whereby she learned the errors of her way and to appreciate what she had. The ending was very satisfying and was a good ending to what was a stronger half to the movie. For true horror fans (like myself), I wouldn't necessarily class this as a horror. It has horror elements, but it much too censored to be such due to the rating it has. It's not scary although it does have mysterious elements and gory kills (even though they do mostly take place off-screen). Overall, despite it's flaws, Wish Upon is worth a watch since it has some very strong moments and the story has lots of potential.

WISH UPON is yet another high school horror flick with an entirely predictable storyline that you'll have seen play out a million times before in a million similar ways. A typical mildly obnoxious protagonist - who has no likeable element to her personality whatsoever - comes into possession of an ancient magical device which will grant her seven wishes. They do come true, but with macabre results. This is the kind of teen friendly fare that I generally dislike watching, with cheesy death scenes that feel like weak imitations of the ones in the FINAL DESTINATION franchise and a general generic and predictable feel. I was amused to see Ryan Philippe looking middle aged and playing the protagonist's father.

It's always a surprise to me that movies like this get made, let alone, get the funding. If you want a sometimes amusing, poor man's Final Destination, then garb some popcorn and have a seat. Keep your expectations low though.

More than anything because it has not arrived yet. It's not that it's a bad movie, it's that you're going to forget it already. We could say that it is a film of university students rather than terror. Where a girl not very intelligent asks desires of small girl.In no time the film gets to start, so it can not fall. There is no tension, no fear or nothing. It's a movie without a photograph, it does not help anything, it's not scary or anything. Its director, does not know how to take it, or print tension or fear. He does not know how to use the camera. He only knows how to bore.
