"Wicked City" is a tedious anime film, vaunted for its heavy sex and violence but not worth watching for either.The "story" is something about a demon world that co-exists, unnoticed, with humans. If this had been made in the 21st century, or even a bit before, it would be about a teenage boy who has a chance encounter with a demon that forcing him to cross over to the other side, and then cope with life in that world. You can also do the same thing with sexy girls and huge stomping robots - that, my friends, is 99% of anime and manga.Anyway, anime had a short-lived fascination with the typical dull hero type in the '80s and early '90s, and "Wicked City" has an example of that in its bland protagonist. The situation is not helped in the English dub where he has the most generic voice imaginable.So, to get to the only reasons anyone has heard of this anime: how much sex and violence does it have?It's really not that violent. If you're used to '80s/'90s anime OVAs and films, you've seen material a million times worse than this: there's very little in the way of blood and guts.And the sex? Well, it does deliver in that regard, but in a world with so many free hentai streaming services, why waste your time? It's not particularly erotic or interesting.

OK, so I have nothing against violence, sex, or even rape in a movie, as far as they're completely necessary or at least add something to the plot. So when they're needed and useful, I can't complain. But, when the whole ''PLOT'' of your movie is just an excuse for this scenes, then I might have a problem with it. So let me put something clear here: If you DON'T enjoy watching people get raped for no f*cking reason or unnecessary sex scenes, then avoid this wannabe porno at any cost. Everything felt completely unnecessary, and not only that, but the ending was completely illogical. OK so the old perverted man supposedly wanted the two of them to have a baby. Then, why not just tell them??? Like seriously, they share your ideals, they're from the same organization. And if that was the case, why did they got fired for leaving the old man alone? Did someone tell their bosses about the real plan? Was it just extremely undercover? And in one point the old horny man admits that he planned EVERYTHING. So the woman getting raped -sorry, can't remember her name, every character in this movie is extremely forgettable- was also part of his plan? Oh well, thanks a lot old man. Let's talk about the female character for a while, compared to the bland one dimensional excuses for characters in this movie, she was the only one I could feel empathy for, because she sacrificed herself for the rest, and what does she gets in return? She's raped and tortured for the rest of the f*cking movie. There are a lot of sex scenes here yet it's still hard to find a consensual one. The main character? I can't even call him a character, he's just the blank space in a fan fiction equivalent. Utterly forgettable.Avoid this movie at all costs.

The Plot: There is earth, our familiar world, and then there is the Black World, a parallel dimension that very few people are aware of. For centuries, a pact between the two worlds has been observed to maintain peace, and terms must be negotiated and renewed soon to continue the relative harmony. This time around, there is a militant faction that will stop at nothing to prevent the signing of a new treaty for inter-dimensional peace. Two agents of the elite organization known as the Black Guards-defenders of the balance between the two worlds-are charged with insuring the success of the treaty. Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll) blends stylish eroticism, graphic horror and pulse-pounding action as these two race to consummate the peace treaty in time.My Spiel: Wicked City was a mind blowing shape shifting animation of greatness the first time I saw it. I couldn't believe what I was watching. Wicked City has a certain style just like (NINJA SCROLL) But with this it was bringing the city element to life. As well as shape shifting monsters from the Black World to life. WC contains tons of blood shed and violence, and quite a bit of nudity and sexual scenes, but don't let that disturb you this is a well crafted anime from the story to the point it is trying to get across. I just remember after watching this the first time I thought nothing can beat that, then I saw Ninja Scroll which was even better. But Wicked City is a great double movie feature with Ninja Scroll I have to say those are 2 of my top 10 favorite Animes because of the impact that hit me after watching them one after another.Wicked City (1987) Review: 9/10

I'm so glad I only got this movie for $5. Anime is expensive, no doubt about that. I've had my eye on this one for awhile and finally I saw it on sale. I grabbed it immediately and took it home only to hang my head in disappointment. This movie sucked. I've heard people talk about how gory and violent this movie is. It's really not that gory or violent. I've watched it three times, and I think I've wasted enough of my life on this. The demons get a point for being unique and kinda cool at times. The sex gets a point since it's almost non-stop. The horny old man gets half-a-point for being horny and still having the sex drive. And the main character (who's name I've erased from my mind) gets half-a-point for the cool design of his gun. I saw major connections between this movie and Demon City Shinjuku. Both have same style animation, that's obvious because of the director, both have lame soundtracks which suck like the Antichrist, and both have terrible endings. Avoid this movie unless you're into anime sex.
