West Hollywood Motel Trailers

Various lives intersect in and around a West Hollywood motel in this kaleidoscopic comedy about sex, love, and the meaning of life.

This mostly gay-themed movie doesn't have much of a storyline and is quite upfront in telling us that but it's oddly likable and quite funny in an amateurish sort of way. The director, Matt Riddlehoover, also takes a leading role as one of several people holed up in the West Hollywood Motel of the title. Almost all of them are gay; there's one straight couple thrown in for good measure, though the wife does appear to grow a penis, They all have their hang-ups but these are largely played for laughs. The mediocrity of the hotel becomes a metaphor for the mediocrity of their lives and perhaps for Hollywood itself. This is definitely not a place where dreams come true though fantasies seem to happen on a regular basis; there is even a homage to Woody Allen's "The Purple Rose of Cairo" when an actor in a gay soap steps out of the screen. Minor it may be but it's not without merit.

This movie did not live up to the promise of the trailer. Although the actors were very likable and their acting up to par and not at all stilted, the storyline lost its footing half-way through and felt forced. The plot about Victor and Miguel had a lot of potential but fizzled (what was with the dancing on the bed?!) even though there was visible on-screen chemistry between the two. The story arc of the married couple missed its footing and landed with a thud as the husband could not complete with the strong performance of the wife. The lesbians were not convincing and there were too many questions put out there that were not addressed. Finally, the plot of the two boyfriends seeming lost in their relationship was just plainly strange. Yes, it is a low budget film but given the strong skills of the actors it could have been much, much more. Lost interest within 40 minutes and spent the remaining time debating on letting movie finish, or to hit 'delete' from my watch list and confine the movie to a bad memory.

This film is hilarious! Funny, funny, funny. It is so absurd that you can only laugh and laugh I did. The cast is perfect and the cast is large, but there are only four main stories to follow so it's not too bad in keeping the characters in mind. There are just about as many women as there are men and they are all gorgeous. My favorite of all time, Jared Allman, is in it and every moment he's on the screen my heart skips a beat. What a hunk. What a chunk. This guy is going places and fast. I excitedly await his first starring role in a major Hollywood flick which should be down the pike before we know it. This guy is a born star. He's got it all. Women will faint. Men will faint. He has that kind of star power. It's like he descended straight from heaven solely to turn our lives around and make us happy again. If I were making a film about Christ he would be perfect.
