Saw this on a DVD in 2014. Was reluctant as i cannot stand found footage. I hate hand held shaky cam stuff. But the good reviews on IMDb prompted me to pick this DVD. The film begins showing a family brutally attacked by something unknown. The surviving member recounts a story of something resembling a tall, hairy man with huge hands that attacked the family. A man who lives near the location of the attack, closely resembles the description and is immediately apprehended by local authorities. Next v c his newly appointed lawyer who gains the mans trust enough to speak to her. From a found footage, it turns into an investigate mystery n later turns into an excellent creature on the loose n full blown action flick. The special effects and makeup were first-rate. Especially the makeup used to create the victims of the werewolf attacks were realistic. Some really good news for ppl who r fed up with pg13 horror. This movie is a breath of fresh air for werewolves movie lovers. The movie is loaded with gruesome killings and gore sights. The mutilated bodies of the victims and the threatening figure of the gigantic beast on the loose was full of tension n mayhem. The beast in this movie is fast, viscous and has a nasty tendency of tearing off its victims' bottom jaw. The explanation given in the movie for the creature/transformation was something new.

WER is another modern day werewolf story with some good stuff to recommend it. This is one of those cold and clinical horror films with lots of scenes either set in the dark or in steel laboratories, so that everything is black and grey. The tale is a grim one with no happy endings or the like; instead bloodshed and murder are the order of the day in this one.Despite being a US-made movie, this has a European feel to it, being filmed in Romania. Police are investigating a massacre and looking into a local weirdo who was found in the vicinity. Much of the running time takes the form of a police procedural investigation, but gradually things become more horrific as the truth is uncovered. There are some very gruesome scenes here, including a bit with broken glass that'll have anyone in their right mind wincing. The acting isn't the strongest, but the film works well in the end by being so relentlessly nihilistic, and with that nihilism comes real power.

I'm not sure why so many people and critics gave this film a mediocre review, at best. Movies have evolved, and directors and producers have learned quite a bit from REC, Blair Witch, Devil's rejects, House of the Devil, Dawn of the Dead remake and the like. This one is not as good as those mentioned, but it's way, way better than Sharknado or pretty much anything else on the Sci-Fi channel. The art direction is awesome, with carefully disciplined scenes in the hospital, the Fiend's home and elsewhere that builds tension. Special effects are great for a low budget film and I thought most awesomely of all, the Fiend was not overdone. By the way, if you have a phobia of shaving, you should skip this one.

The Good: This is my favorite film depiction of a werewolf. It's based on a mix of psychological and physiological illness and only uses the mythology as an exaggerated and faulty eye witness account to a heart wrenching disease. There's no wolf like features in the effects here for those of you who are die-hard "it has to resemble a wolf" types. The werewolf's character is a believable recluse who I still felt pity for even by the end of the film, despite him only really having about 3 lines of dialogue. I thought the idea of portraying the film's story line through a law enforcement/ justice system point of view was a fresh take and they did a good job with not allowing the film to feel like another episode of CSI. The Bad: The three characters who are defending the werewolf's case are bumbling college students with jock strap egos put in lawyer garb. They don't fit their professions at all and exist, I feel, as an attention grabber since they are all 3 fashionably attractive and create unnecessary dramatic tension in the film. Though the film had a lot of promise with it's story line(s), I feel that they tried to do too much and the story became jumbled and confused between a tragically comedic romantic 3 way, a serious look at how the judicial system handles criminals with medical disabilities, conspiracy and cover ups in the police department, and a archetypal story as to the identity of man. I feel that if the film producers/writers/directors had picked one of those themes and stuck with it, the film would have been much more cohesive and would have probably been labeled my favorite werewolf film; but: too many ideas, not enough focus; obnoxiously out of place character interactions caused it to go on to a 'I might watch it again but probably wont' list.
