Many times hand cooked dinner made of ready-made recipe with minimal effort would taste better than carefully made exotic feast. Lingusamy has just managed to do the former with his latest offering "Vettai". With minimal fuss & ready-made formula , he has given a engaging & fast- paced movie which is enjoyable.Instead of breaking his head in searching for inspirations from European or Asian movies, he has made a script based on Bhagyaraj's successful movie if the yore "Avasara police 100". Taking the basic premise from that movie he has woven over it a racy script with flashes of intelligence here & there. He has managed to keep the viewer engaged for the whole length of the movie leaving no scope to complain.Aarya has nothing much to do as far as acting is concerned , all he has to do is flex his muscles in numerous action sequences & shake his legs in the dance sequences. Madhavan has more scope to perform as a gullible elder brother who becomes a police inspector & who gets name and fame due to the actions of his younger brother. However it is rather shocking to see this once charming chocolate boy hero who has become so flabby that it looks quite uncomfortable when he tries to dance or perform action sequences. Both the heroines don't have much in terms of screen space. Amala Paul is cutie pie while Sameera Reddy is chilly Bajji.Ashutosh Rana comes in a routine villain character ably aided by "Thalaivasal " Vijay's dubbing. Nasser's is a confusing character , what is the relevance of his character to the main story & his mannerisms leaves a lot to be desired.Yuvan Shankar Raja's Music is below average , only "Papparapa" song managed to get the attention of the viewers.Nirav Shah does a okay job. Wonder what happened to the once talented cinematographer.Brinda Sarathy's dialogs are sharp & witty , able to bring out a comical vein throughout the narration.Lingusamy is back to his best on the lines of "Run" & "Sandakozhi" after slip-ups in his previous couple of movies. On the whole, "Vettai" is a racy masala entertainer without much logic or novelty.Bottomline : Tasty

Vettai is a typical Linguswamy style mass masala entertainer. The Director come writer's main aim is to entertain the viewers who like such kind of films and he became successful in that.Vettai is the story about two brothers. The elder one Thiru murthy(Madhavan)is a coward one still in this age. At the same time, his younger brother Guru Murthy(Aarya) is brave enough to fight alone with anyone. Their father was a police officer and he will die while he was in the service. So as per the rule one son will get the job in Police. Since Thiru is the elder one and Guru has some petty police cases, every one suggest Thiru to join the force. But because of his cowardness he won't agree with that. But everyone compel him and finally he agrees. Thus Thiru will take charge as the police officer. But when a case of some child kidnap came he will be afraid to proceed with the case. At that time Guru came forward to help his brother. He fight with the villains and save the child. The credit will be given to Thiru. Thus Thiru became a bravest officer for others. The same happens every time.At the same time they will got married to two girls who were also sisters. Thiru will be married to the elder one Vasanthi(Sameera Reddy) and Guru to the younger one Jayanthi(Amala Paul). As the movie goes forward as usual there will happen some problems between the Heroes and villains. The villains will understand that Guru is the real guy who fight against them. So they beat Thiru and he will be hospitalized with lot of fractures and all. But Guru won't take revenge against the villains. He compel Thiru to come back and take the revenge for all these. At last Thiru will make a great come back and the brothers will fight against the villains and make their victory.

After the success of Paiyaa, Lingusamy's Vettai was eagerly anticipated especially with Arya and Madhavan in the leads. Vettai is about a cowardly police SI, Thiru (Madhavan) being posted to Toothukudi where the cops are powerless to uphold law and order. Thiru enlists the help of his younger brother, Guru (Arya) to help him fight the criminals and the praises are showered on Thiru. When Thiru seizes the lorries belonging to Annachi (Ashutosh Rana) with the help of Guru, it ignites a battle between the dreaded gangster and the cowardly cop.Meanwhile, there is Vasanthi (Sameera Reddy) who hates Guru after some unpleasant encounters. Vasanthi then gets married to Thiru and there is a cute romantic track between Vasanthi's sister, Jayanthi (Amala Paul) and Guru. The first half of the movie is laced with comedy sequences while the second half onwards, it shifts to a racy action-thriller mode. Madhavan, back into action-oriented roles after a long time impresses. He shifts from a cowardly character to a rough cop with finesse. Arya, undoubtedly is the star of the film. His comic antics remind u of Boss from Boss Engira Bhaskaran. Sameera Reddy as the loud-mouthed Vasanthi is excellent while Amala Paul shines in a different avatar this time out. Ashutosh Rana as Annachi is just impressive in his Tamil debut. He reacts with aplomb and fights well too. Thambi Ramaiah and Nasser provide funny moments in the police station as Thiru's colleague and superior respectively. Lookout for special appearances by Raju Sundaram, art director Rajeevan and Lingusamy himself. The technical strength of the film is surely the camera-work of Nirav Shah. Be it the songs or the action sequences, all of it were brilliantly shot. Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs are good with Thaiya Thakka and Katti Pudi stand out. The BGM is good and apt. Stunts by Silva is impressive while Anthony's editing maintains the pace of the film at a reasonable level.Madhavan got his action avatar in Lingusamy's Run which was a massive hit and reprises that in Vettai in a toned-down scale. An action-hero avatar is looming for Arya. Vettai is a neatly-packaged entertainer by Lingusamy who makes films with different themes.

I got to watch this movie in the fdfs. Went with no expectations whatsoever. But i was not disappointed. What i thought would be a regular mindless masala movie, turned out to be pretty good in the end.The movie starts with the introduction of both the heroes and heroines with a song for each. unusually we can see Arya, the younger one, standing up and saving the elder one Madhavan. Madhavan gets his dad's police job and takes it up with too much hesitation after Arya's encouragement. As the movie starts, Madhavan literally shivers in his police uniform in the harbor city of Thutukudi which is filled with gangs of rowdys. When Madhavan is given a duty, the fighting part was done by Arya and the pride and the villain's wrath goes to Madhavan. In between these stuff the heroes meet and fall in love with the heroines. When the villains come to know about this double game played by the brothers, they bash up Madhavan. Madhavan, after a series of operations and encouragement from Arya, rejoins the police force with a rejuvenated energy. What happens here after forms the rest of the story. If first half shows Madhavan's cowardice and second half his developed bravery, Arya's fearlessness stands out. Sameera and Amala Paul have done their "heroine" duties nicely and they are good to look on screen. Ashutosh Rana has given a neat performance in his first Tamil movie. Music is above average. On the whole, its an awesome entertainer and can be thoroughly enjoyed by one and all. :)
