"Vacuity" is a 11-minute (without credits) short film from 3 years ago and it deals with an astronaut who has to make the toughest decision of his life. The plot here on IMDb sounded really interesting, which made me curious about this movie, but sadly it does not live up to the expectations. First of all, one thing every movie about space needs is a good depiction of isolation and I thought this was missing here. Also it is way too melodramatic on many occasions and simply unrealistic as a whole. Lead actor Michael Steppe is not great, but okay all in all. Writer and director Michael Matzur is still pretty young, so I hope he can learn a bit from this and make less flawed films in the future. It's not a complete failure, but also not remotely good enough to make me recommend it to you enthusiastically. Thumbs down.
