We have all seen this movie many times before: The quirky stranger comes into the life of a harried person or dysfunctional family and causes havoc and in the process helps them learn the true value of what is right in front of them if they'd only stop to notice.Hollywood has made this same story probably hundreds of times and we've all seen it in one incarnation or another more often than we can count. Sometimes the predictably of this age old story is just so much like ticking items off a checklist that you can't turn it off fast enough. And sometimes the predictable, feel-good story is, instead, done well and with just enough original bits that it feels like that old, stretched out, faded, fuzzy sweater you just can't part with because it is just so darned comfortable and comforting. We all know the formula of these films. We all know how it will end. But because Uncle Nino does it with such easy charm and gentle humor and none of the cheap, emotional manipulativeness most employ -- we just don't care! It is nice to see Joe Mantegna do something other than the typical macho roles we are so familiar with and Gina Mantegna is so natural she inadvertently puts a spotlight on how most child actors have more 'the right look' than any real acting chops.

Real people in a plausible situation, superbly acted and directed, realistic yet touching cinematography, a simple and relevant plot that kept the audience engaged. (you don't need complex plots to make a great movie!!) My 12 year old daughter's response after the movie was, "we have to buy the DVD, I can watch this thing a lot more".My 14 year old son, said, "this was the best movie I have seen and I loved the Lord of the Rings movies, it was so real and moving, I even cried a little ... ." Needless to say, we came home and told our friends, some balked at the 1.5 hour trip, but I know a few that will be going with us this weekend.I do hope that you release this movie on DVD - SOON. We will certainly be getting one for ourselves and some as gifts. As a musician, I was so connected with Bobby and Uncle Nino. My grandfather was a musician but he died before, I started playing. My heart ached a little in those scenes where Bobby and Nino played together (I would have loved to have done that with my grandfather!) I hope that this message encourages you to produce more high quality family friendly movies, you can count on us as customers if you do.Thank you for your fine work.PS - I agree, lawns are stupid!! My son can't wait until I get rid of mine!!

This moving was so cool... I find it extremely hard to believe that it is not available on DVD. It's a movie about Italians and there are no gangsters so unfortunately Hollywood does not approve. I'm not saying this is the greatest, must see movie of all time... I'm just saying that I really wanted my parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews , aunts, uncles, friends etc. to be able to see the movie. I think there would be a lot of others out there who would really enjoy the movie as well ....but there's no Tony Soprano, no Vito Corleone,no Joey Tribbiani, no Joey Buttafucco, no Vinny Barberino, no graphic sex, no "drive bys", no bloody horses heads, so... there is no DVD. If there is anyone out there who can get this movie out to the public and in the public eye I would really appreciate it. Really!

A distant, and slightly dysfunctional family is brought closer together when the father's long-estranged Uncle Nino comes from Italy to Chicago for a surprise visit. This sweet old man brings with him the untarnished values and sensitivity of Europe that we seem to forget so often in America. "Uncle Nino" pushes aside the preachy-teachy tendencies that come so common in films of this type. This story is not at all trite - but beautifully realized by a fantastic cast and a story that "breathes" for a change. Take the spirit of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, add the humor of The Odd Couple, and the family-oriented sensitivity of Ordinary People. This flick is 3 winners in one!
