The actors, camerawork and set design is wonderful. but that is everything good about it.. it was an empty story. a story which seems hopeless, is still ending good and that's such a cliché. i am dutch myself and really would have liked real dutch actors to play these roles. there are some real talents over here.

I'm glad I watched it, but I think it actually suffered from too little time for such an elaborate story. When there are multiple story arcs to follow, it must either be tightly interwoven or given time to expand character development. While I never found it boring, it felt a little long at times for one sitting. Doing it in 3 or 4 hours might allowed time to tell more of the backstory of the main characters and flesh out the minor ones more. The acting was great and honestly the scene with doctor being chased up the stairs was actual quite comical! And Zach Galifinakis brings some understated levity to his role. Beautifully filmed as well, not to mention a fun dive into the world of "crazes", which have been around for hundreds of years.

If only this were actually about the tulip trade that still fascinates economists as well as tulip growers alike. This could have been a very interesting, informative and cleverly written story, but alas it was like watching a more drunken and sexualized tale of "Girl with a Pearl Earring" with more fish and tulips than bratty 9 year olds. Now, could someone please tell a GOOD story about the TULIPS, please?

The movie has a good start which turns out to get the viewer fixated until the third quarter of the movie, when things goes apart the events clearly loses logic and connection.
