The actual concept for the film is very frightening and creepy, but the execution of the film is a mess. The basic idea is that children who suffer from night terrors aren't just having bad dreams, they're being marked by aliens who come back for them 20 years later. They are treating the humans as livestock, picking the cream of the crop as children and implanting them with basically a meat thermometer. They then live out their lives unsuspectingly, just like cattle do, the whole time the aliens watching and waiting until its time to harvest them. Once they're ready the implant pops up just like a turkey thermometer and a wound appears. A tiny scab our characters pick at unsuspectingly, until they discover its an implant signaling the aliens that its time to come get their order. Even creepier is the children KNOW this is what is happening. From their dreams they know the aliens want to eat them.but then instead of building upon that premise into a great film, we get a standard horror cliché with lights turning off, doors opening by themselves and phones, elevators, lighters, any device you need to work in an emergency suddenly won't work at all. Several scenes of barely seeing something out of the corner of your eye, and by the end of the film you'll wish it stayed there because when the aliens are finally revealed its with some of the worst CGI imaginable. Its almost like the Producers realized in post- production the movie didn't turn out so good and cut the special effects budget. All in all the movie really could have been better but somewhere in the midst of script rewrites it lost its way.

The tag-line for this film is 'First comes the warning. Then comes the mark. Then comes the terror.' Which I think we can all agree is alluring. The film focuses on a young woman called Julia Lund (Laura Regan) who is a psychology student at university. Julia has a friend in her life named Billy (Jon Abrahams) who was a troubled child due to night terrors which Julia herself was afflicted with also. Billy calls Julia while she is with her boyfriend Paul Loomis (Marc Blacas) to ask if she can meet him immediately, because he is having his night terrors again, and is trying to warn her that they're all in danger. Julia sees a mark on Billy's hand that intrigues her but he refuses to talk about it. She then meets two of Billy's friends Terry (Dagmara Dominczyk) and Sam (Ethan Embry) who also used to suffer from night terrors as children and are now having them again. Sam and Terry also possess the mark seen on Billy. Julia tries to understand what is happening by doing a classic research all-nighter. Upon doing so Julia reads through Billy's old diary entries from when he was a child until present day. She reads an entry showing that Billy thought him and his friends had all been marked by something evil when they were children and it now wants them.I think the film can most certainly call itself a mystery. I don't feel it was a particularly good film or worth the watch but I had to watch it to the end to see what was going on, I was so captivated in the storyline and what was going to happen. I had to know. But I feel I still didn't get the conclusion I was hoping for.I feel that the film could have been so much better if they went into the back story more than focusing on what was happening present day, because as a viewer I needed answers. Perhaps the director just wanted to try and get more jumps from the film and more suspense as opposed to getting a great story across. I would not recommend watching this film, I for one would not watch it again. Of course it is up to you if you feel you'd like to give it a chance, but I think you'd be disappointed.*SonyaSays*

After the smash hit (American version) The Ring in 2001, many other horror films tried to copy its formula. Some succeeded (like the US version of The Grudge), but most fell into the forgotten abyss of B-movie horror.'They' comes somewhere between the two. It's not as good as either The Ring or The Grudge, but it's not as terrible as some of its fellow genre movies. It tells the story of a woman who experienced 'night terrors' as a child. Now grown up, strange things start to happen which indicate that the night terrors are coming back again. The good: it's quite short. If you really hate it, you won't feel like you've wasted too much of your life on it. Also, the 'night terrors' are quite creepy, both in the weird 'trilling' sounds they make, plus what you do get to see of them (which isn't that much). The bad: not much of a budget. No recognisable stars and some may feel that you don't really get to see enough of the 'night terrors' to work out what they actually look like. Also, I've seen a lot of online criticism of the main actress - it ranges from her looks (apparently she has a 'long neck' and even an 'adams apple' to her acting ability. Okay, she was never going to win an Oscar for her performance, but I didn't think she was any worse than any other 'scream queen' in a similar type of film.If you fancy another 'Ring-esque' type of film, you might like to give this one a go.

I first bought this movie like 8 years ago.I was never an afraid or shy watcher when it comes to horror movies. Mostly most of them wasn't doing any effect on me due to very low credibilities and out-of-aim unnecessary special effects and story backgrounds of the movies that makes you "eehhh...ending up with saying "another bullshit". On the other hand "They" was just another movie for me on that time though which made me think "can have potential" however while i was watching this pure horror it was so unrelentingly keeps you on the edge of your seat, i wasn't aware that i could feel something like this since like so long time..What i can say for this movie is "freaking awesome"!!! And that's it! Frankly speaking, as a horror movie of course what audience expect differs from one another but one thing mostly does not change; we do not make horror movies as documentary, (2nd world) war films, long story short "fact movies" made upon some historical facts or science facts. (I said "mostly" because there are few such examplary movies of these categories.) Instead horror movies most of the time consist of incredible characters, monsters, zombies, and mostly they rely on such unbelievable situations which makes you laugh which leads us again "credibility". "They" gives you this credibility beautifully combining your childish fears with a background of nightmare/incubus legend among children with "unseen" characters, eventually makes you suspense, confuse and hesitate..The ability of the movie relating with your ownself while you are watching this movie is inexpressible combining it with darkness and unknownness fear.I want to note that this is above all in pshycological horror category which is "more simple means more expressive" which needs serious audience. If you are expecting a zombie bashing movie just to enjoy your tastes do not even start it. But if you feel ready to watch a real horror movie and let this movie gets you into your most deep childish fears...watch it.10/10 --Do not watch this movie as if its a classic Wes Craven movie, actually in my opinion let alone this is his best horror movie, its one of the best movies of all.--Do not watch this movie with any preopinions or getting any comments of it before like any other movie it will ruin it.--Do not watch this movie if you are unable to relate with your childish feelings/sides anymore.
