one of films with noble desire to change the rules of romantic drama. and without success in this mission. result - a bizarre story about nothing. and the satisfaction to see a film for yours favorite actors. and nothing else. because it is a film with many good premises but in absence of the courage to work them. because a crisis before wedding is chaotic managed. something missing is the only obvious truth. something significant but , looking to repair it, every chance to save it is lost. dialogues, memories from the past, sentimental dilemmas, crazy scenes. and the bitter atmosphere who use few nuances from Tchekov and absurd theater. "The Romantics" is far to be a bad movie. because it has the virtue to be recreate in the memory by public in a better version. but this is far to be a virtue.

It's really okay if she doesn't exist, anyway. I really hate her stupid and innocent expression. Makes me wanna punch her in her face. Sorry. And her mother, too? What's so intimidating about her that makes Tom so nervous around her? He is a jerk, for crying out loud! And what's so rich about Lila's family. I didn't see it is being exposed. They're just like any other standard family, to me.If I'm not mistaken. these guys used to be best friends in college. And then they meet again ten years later to attend Lila's wedding with Tom, who accidentally Laura's ex. Well, I have never had a friendship that long of time, but why I didn't see bond between them. Lila looks like an outcast among them. Like nobody really cares about her wedding. And the big question is, why Lila and Laura have to be in love with Tom, who is apparently doubtful, insecure and confused about his own choice. Weak! I hate him.To me, this movie is like another version of Rachel Getting Married or Margo at The Wedding. Not the same, tho. Just the ambiance. But I kinda like the ending. Thank a lot something spared me from being bored to death

There is no chemistry between anybody: none of the best friends, the bride and groom, or the two people who are supposedly really in love: the groom and his jilted girlfriend/now a bridesmaid. Anna Paquin looks vacant through most of the movie; Katie Holmes acts like she can quite be bothered to actually act her part; Candace Bergen is wasted here (not drunk, but her talent is wasted); in one scene where the camera lingers lovingly on the faces of the proud parents of the groom -- Candace B. and someone I didn't know -- the father looks like someone just poked him and hissed "Here! Smile here." The ending just stinks; it left me asking "What the hell was that?" Otherwise, it's great.
... View MoreI never read the novel but I did enjoy the movie to a great degree. The title implies, to me, the love and happiness shared amongst the couples, yet the beauty of the movie lies in its timeless storyline of a man stuck between two woman, unrequited love, and the sarcastic audacity of friends who in fact snort coke, almost cheat, and streak with each other's partners. I was captured from the opening scene and found that I could only describe this movie as quaint. It made me laugh, made me cry, and made me feel for the character who ultimately won in the end. (Although you really might be confused in the end, as it started raining and they started laughing)
