The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement Trailers

Mia Thermopolis is now a college graduate and on her way to Genovia to take up her duties as princess. Accompanied by her friend Lilly, Mia continues her 'princess lessons', like riding horses side-saddle and archery. But her already complicated life is turned upside down once again when she learns that she is to take the crown as queen earlier than expected, all while she meets a mysteriously charming young man.

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004): Dir: Garry Marshall / Cast: Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo, Chris Pine, Heather Matarazzo: Every bit as predictable as its successor but this one is about marriage and authority surrounding Princess Mia being crowned Queen of Genovia but council ruling claims that she must be married. This leaves a corrupt official an opening for his nephew who is an heir. So now Mia has 30 days to find a husband. Predictable with not a shred of creativity other than the fact that Mia's maids should not be allowed out in public. Directed by Garry Marshall who made the first film as well as the adult version titled Pretty Woman. Anne Hathaway is ready for something bigger and better. This role requires her to get to know a guy in record time before deciding to spend the rest of her life with him. What a crock of sh*t. Julie Andrews sings, which is about the only positive aspect to her otherwise familiar character. Hector Elizondo is the security adviser with sound advice that unfortunately doesn't involve leaving this film. Chris Pine plays the umpteenth boring male heir lined up to score quickly and pretend this is happily ever after bullshit. Heather Matarazzo also reprises her role as that annoying best friend from home that nobody liked in the first film. Typical sequel that is about as engaging as a kick in the ass. Score: 3 / 10

I watched the first and second installment in this series back-to-back, and my main interpretation was that it was a little bemusing that the creator of "Happy Days" was directing movies about a well-meaning but awkward teenage girl who becomes a princess. Anyone used to Fonzie's turning on the jukebox just by hitting it would have to find it hard to believe that Garry Marshall directed these. While I usually heckle these kinds of movies like the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" characters do to really crummy movies, I didn't heckle these ones. I'm not tempted to heckle Anne Hathaway, considering that she's proved herself to be more than just another pretty face by playing more serious roles in "Brokeback Mountain", "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Rachel Getting Married".Basically, "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement", like its predecessor, is very predictable. A major thing that I interpreted from it is that it must be weird to have people waiting on you constantly. That's all that I have to say about "TPD2:RE".

I am of the opinion that everything in life needs to be viewed in a proper perspective. You can't compare Princess Diaries to a masterpiece directed by Ridley Scott. It would be profoundly unfair to both parties. Over all, this movie which I happened to watch one night when it was too late to bother finding something else worth watching on TV,is okay to pass an hour and a half with when you need an uncomplicated laugh. No more,no less. A romcom for girls under 20 and perhaps their moms. Full of americanocentric stereotypes,a fictional continental European country which resembles a liliput nation such as Luxembourg and where people's names are a mish-mash of Italian,French and German-sounding syllables. Think "General von Klinkerhoffen" from "Allo',Allo'" and you will be pretty close. A country where monarchy actually RULES,like it did in the medieval times,a fictional, uncomplicated Europe with Sleeping Beauty- castles, green pastures complete with shepherds and cobbled streets. And all of this meets a gum-chewing,easy-going all-American girl who introduces the revolutionary idea of women actually being able to marry whomever they choose. What a remarkable achievement! It initiallt frightens me a bit to think that some people in the USA actually might believe that this represents a true picture of the European countries where monarchy still exist, but the thought is merely amusing. No,European monarchs do not RULE countries, they are merely trade marks. So now you know it.

I loved the movie!!! I would like to see part 3 called Princess Mia's Wedding. I would like her to marry(Chris Pine). The movie should have them dating then getting married and ready to start a family. The 2nd was the best but I would change the title of the movie just with a new title will attract more viewers. Princess Diaries 2 was very very good and to have Chris Pine was very smart.Chris and Anne made a good match that is why if you make #3 with them both together you will be sure to have a winner. Also good music will be a plus in the movie. I have read the other comments from other viewers that have seen the movie and the comment were not bad but just think about it change the title and have Anne and Chris get together and you will see a new door open up with more viewers then you can name and have a winner try it and I know we all will love it.
