Kristen Scott Thomas throws a small party to celebrate her promotion and one by one middle class mores are put to the knife. Rattles along apace for its short running time with plenty of acid flowing throughout. Fine performances with Clarkson and latterly Spall getting the best lines. Worth catching - but comes across as a solid TV one off rather than a cinematic experience.
... View MoreAn interesting plot that keeps you on your feet. The dialogues really encourage reflection from the viewer and I would highly recommend it to those who who like to be challenged when watching a movie. Would watch again!
... View MoreThis film tells the story of a group of friends who gather at a party, but unexpected news hit them one after another.I normally do not like single location films that feature a lot of bickering, but "The Party" is really quite a cut above the rest. Though there is a lot of negative energy in the room, the characters do not appear obnoxious or unbearable. The flow is great, and events happen naturally one after another. One problem with single location bickering films is that the bickering continues just for the sake of it, but in this film an event drive another, and feels very real. I liked this intense story.
... View MoreMaybe the producers intended the double pun with the title , a small gathering or a political party or another person, it is brought to immediate attention that with a limited number of people in a room, this is like a stage play except it is on film ( so one can choose to pause or stop if you watch it on home movie channels). With just seven people interacting melodramatically and theatrically with each other ( perhaps the producers were inspired by Glengarry Glenross ) with revelations about sickness, pregnancies, cheating, lying plus plus , it is just a matter of time before someone meets a tragic end. This film has not maximized its potential perhaps because it comes across overdone.
