This is one of my favorite romantic comedies. The leads are attractive and skillful actors. It has significant humor, but the focus is on the relationship of the leads. One gets a bit of education about life in current day India. There are no flashy special effects, steamy sex scenes, car chases, or bad language. I guess that's what some people have a problem with??

I find "The Other End of the Line" loaded with too much cliché add to that the suggestive background music/songs (like, Pretty Woman?..please). Domineering parents, narcissistic hot blond, nerdy friend, not so funny boss, I am beginning to wonder where is the requisite dog? The segments where Granger took Priya for a tour of San Francisco is very staged and has unconvincing actions. And the ending, jeez, right out of An Officer and a Gentleman. If you enjoy sappy comedic love story, this one is for you. Jesse Metcalfe's acting is good considering he is mostly known for his role as a hot stud in Desperate Housewife's. More acting lessons for him might land him a better scripted movie. The girl the played the role of Priya sometimes displays inconsistent emotions. I suppose she is trying to pattern her actions with that of Julia Robert.

It seems logical to suppose that after the huge success of Slumdog Millionaire and the increasingly popular presence of Hindi actors in North American cinema would lead to a fusion between Hollywood and Bollywood.Well, I am not talking about a fusion of industries, but to their particular styles combined in movies which will try to satisfy both markets. However, the risk is that the resulting product will not add the positive elements from those two industries, but the negative ones. And sure, the initial failures are natural on any experiment, as we can see on the horrible romantic comedy The Other End of the Line. With the exception of the Hindi "taste" this movie has, there is nothing which distinguishes it from many romantic comedies full of forced sentimentality, "funny" confusions and all the predictable elements we can expect. It is so easy to predict what will happen in The Other End of the Line that I quickly lost the interest in the story. In summary, my recommendation is for you to stay away from this pathetic romantic comedy. As an alternative to those who are interested in Bollywood but do not wanna see 3 hours of byzantine stories and musical numbers (like it happens on many films from that industry), I can recommend some British-Hindi hybrids I enjoyed very much, like Bend It Like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.Otherwise, The Other End of the Line is a very bad augury for future mixes between Hollywood and Bollywood...although thinking it well, the problem may not have been the diversity of cultures, but having hired to director James Dodson, responsible of the atrocious Quest of the Delta Knights.

This is an old formula for a romantic comedy, but if it is done well, it is still enjoyable to watch. It is nice to have something to watch which is relaxing after seeing some of the tense thrillers I also like to watch. The one thing that bugged me about this movie is the girl works as a tech support phone operator in India for an American company. Her big advantage is that she can sound "American" and people don't know she is in India. Why does that bug me? Because it reminds me of the thousands of jobs that have been outsourced to other countries for cheap labor at a time when our country is in the biggest recession since the 30s. It was hard for me to be sympathetic to the characters when in the back of my mind, I kept thinking of the "outsourcing" problem.I did like the actors.
