The state of viewer seeing . it is the basic significant thing. because "The Little Mermaid" is a gem for inspired use of tools from music to cinematography and landscape, silence and gasps and the "holes" of story who , at the first sigh, are the problem of it. a circus, a memaid in a bath tank. in a tent. few simple viewers. and something to defines it more than a horror. a cold poetry of image. an isolated world. the traits of old fairy tales. and it is enough for a real beautiful film.
... View More"The Little Mermaid" is a Canadian 7-minute horror film directed by Nicholas Humphries and written by Meagan Hotz. In my opinion, this film's biggest strength is the visual side. The set decoration is nice, same goes for the makeup. The music fits very well too and makes it an atmospheric little movie. However, there is one plot point that basically destroys the entire thing. Why does he perceive the mermaid as human? Was it her chant? And anyway, if she kills him, what does it help her. She is still caught in a bathtub. Yes he probably would not have let her go anyway, but at least there may have been visitors and there would have been a tiny possibility that one of them helps her. I wish this film could have been thought through more convincingly in terms of the story as it truly delivers in terms of technical aspects. Still, story is everything and that is why I cannot recommend it.
