Plot Overview: When Simon(Joe Thomas)'s girlfriend dumps him, he and his friends go on a lads holiday to Malia, encountering drugs, alcohol and women along the way.Directed by Ben PalmerStarring Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and James Buckley# NO SPOILERS!Overall: If you like the TV show, you'll like this film. If you like this type of Cringe comedy - you'll like this movie. This movie is definitely not for everyone but those that it is for will like it.The type of people who like this movie will be fans of the TV show and those who enjoy cringe comedy.Would Recommend# POSSIBLE SPOILERS!Blake Harrison was great as Neil Sutherland and is everyone's favourite slow, perverted 18 year old. All the characters were hilarious and amazing and brilliant. Other than Blake, other leading actors' acting was pretty mediocre. The villain-esc character was very weak. The overall story doesn't go over the top and remains like a classical lads holiday. The ending is pretty nice and has a nice sentiment. There is nothing really special to the story and the continuous over arching story of Simon & Carli's relationship has become bland and repetitive. The cinematography was fine. It worked well and served its purpose. This movie is positively hilarious and thoroughly entertaining. It opens the window for fans of the show and newcomers alike to enjoy the antics of Will and co. The music was amazing. Mr Gilbert's cameo was amazing.Personally, I loved this movie and think it is one of the better TV- Big screen adaptations that's been made in recent memory.8/10
... View MoreWill, Simon, Jay and Neil are all here as the gang head out to Malia for a lads holiday after leaving school. It is to be the holiday of a life time, but in Inbetweeners style nothing goes to plan. And that's where the similarities with the hilarious TV show end. As sadly the film fails to capture the magic of the show. The movie plot positively throbs with potential. From horny teens, a holiday destination, and Jay having money from a dead grandparent. What could go wrong?? It simply never dips in to the potential.I'll start with Jay, some of the funniest lines in the TV show come from him. Here for some reason he is very watered down, and barely lies or exaggerates at all. his one lie "I've swam further UNDER water" was one of the two times I actually laughed. There was soooo much potential for the character of Jay in this situation, and it's never explored and we miss it!! Next up Simon is so ridiculously annoying and naive (who gives up ALL of their clothes) as he pines for Carli I wanted to punch him never mind Jay!As for punching someone the character of the Rep that Carli was smitten with was vile and in no way got the sort of comeuppance that he deserved. Will was a duller version of his TV version self and was subject to the old suntan lotion gag that was old, when it was used in "Police Academy V" the only one close to his TV version was Neil, and him leading the boys minus Jay on a dance to attract the attention of 4 girls was the second time I laughed. Now on to the 4 girls, all OK, but clichéd. But it is ridiculous that all 4 four girls, hooked up with the 4 boys for a holiday romance, and it is NOT in keeping with Inbetweeners spirit. The show is funny watching them try and fail. for all four to succeed just seemed like a "lets give them all an American Pie-esque happy ending" situation. All it all a massive let down, and this will not find it's way into my DVD collection unlike the TV show.
... View MoreI am not a fan of the Inbetweeners series so going into this film I was just expecting a fun comedic film which is sort of what this film is. The four boys go on holiday to Mailia for a lads holiday and as you would expect the shenanigans ensue. Now this film does have some laughs, however, these are just toilet humour and can be quite disturbing which is good but it is a shame that the comedy is just this and there isn't really a variety of humour. The performances are alright and the setting is great for the film but it isn't really a coherent film with just a lot of comedy sketches which are funny but don't make a great film. This film overall is just a film for the fans of the series and will be less funny if you're not a die hard Inbetweeners fan.
... View MoreThe grand finale of a successful British TV series, has the foursome of socially inept dysfunctional youth go on spring break into Greek wonderland in search for sex, drugs and the ultimate party. The self-proclaimed 'pussay patrol' hit the sands, unruly, clueless, but mostly clit-oriented. The virgin wisecracking Will McKenzie (Simon Bird) keeps a watchful sarcastic distance towards the whole endeavor, while his best mate Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas) bemoans being dumped by his girlfriend just prior to the trip. The more one-track stance is taken on by the remaining twosome: Neil Harrison (Blake Harrison) who dry-humps literally anything that has two melons (as only penetration equals cheating on his girl), while the crass and oft overbearing Jay Cartwright (James Buckley) spews out masculine obscenities when mis-enticing his prey. The European Pie takes on a similar crude form of outlook into sexual explorations of youth, as its American predecessor, adding in some low-brow lewd British humour. Given the relative prominence of the serial, director Ben Palmer dives straight into the story, no real introduction necessary, as the characters are well-defined enough to quickly fill in the blanks, while the vessel itself is already en route to the perverse land of all night partying and sexuality. The narrative never really evolves from there, basically limiting itself to throwing a counterpart foursome of girls, who may or may not turn out to be the 'pussay patrols' summer sexual retreat.Owing much to the famed American Pie series, "The Inbetweeners" delves into a similar level of humour, but unfortunately with inferior build-up and an unexpected drabness (a sense of insincerity to the story). Here the action is much more episodic, as if warping from sketch to sketch, instead of steadily building up and bringing about the obscene audacious hilarity. Naturally "American Pie" also had its prolonged gags, but in the end they seamlessly converged into a vastly superior and raunchier story.
