One of the better mystery/thrillers that I saw this year. It all starts pretty slow, but as soon as you know what's going on then the story is really taking another level. A lot of suspense and intrigues during the entire movie. Very easy to follow and more important, very entertaining. You constantly wonder what's going to happen. And that's due to the excellent actors in La Cara Oculta. The three main actors Clara Lago (as Belén), Martina García (as Fabiana) and Quim Gutiérrez (as Adrián) did a great job with their respective performances. Hitchcock would have been proud of The Hidden Face. Even though it's not in my native language I really enjoyed this movie. I will probably watch it again in the future.

One of the best thrillers I've seen. It kept me intrigued until the last minute! My heart started to beat faster and I didn't want it to end! It was unpredictable through the whole story! Very good acting, script and directing!!! Unusual story and one where you cannot even imagine what will happen next! The views were constantly shifting so you could not decide who is the one to blame! Nice images which suited to the events that were taking place. Outstanding music plays an important role in the story since it adds even more suspense. The feelings it provoked reminded me of other such good movies I had seen (spanish, too): Sleep Tight, and the unforgettable The Skin I Live In. I consider all of them a must watch!

Talking to a friend recently about movies he has seen,I got told about a Bollywood Thriller called Murder 3.Taking a look at the titles IMDb page,I found out that it was an "unofficial" remake of a fantastic-looking Spanish Horror/Thriller.Getting set to write my 800th IMDb review,I felt that it was the perfect time to unmask the hidden face. The plot:Returning home, conductor Adrián finds out that his girlfriend Belén has recorded him a video message.Playing the video, Adrián is horrified to hear Belén say that she has left him,and that he will never see her again. After reporting her missing to the cops, Adrián starts to drown his sorrows.Finding him heavily drunk, barmaid Fabiana decides to take Adrián back to her place.Taken by her easy-going charms, Adrián starts to fall in love with Fabiana, whilst Fabiana falls for Adrián's elegant musicianship. With there being no sign of Belén,Fabiana (who has been told about the missing Belén) moves in with Adrián.Whilst taking a shower,Fabiana begins to hear strange noises coming from the bathroom pipes. Terrified that the sounds are being made by the ghost of Belén,Fabiana soon discovers that Belén is far from being a ghost.View on the film:For the first half of the film, the screenplay by co-writer/(along with Arturo Infante & Hatem Khraiche)director Andrés Baiz gives the viewer an excellent false sense of security,as Fabiana and Adrián burning love is haunted by noises straight from a traditional ghost story. After getting the audience to set their minds on a ghost story being told, the writers deliver an extremely intelligent, smart twists, which shows the events that have taken place in the last 40 minutes at a completely different angle.Making sure that the title does not place all its importance on the twist, the writers build a Noirish Horror Thriller atmosphere,as Fabiana & Belén each develop a deep sense of doubt for Adrián.Keeping things bumping in the night for the first half, Baiz & cinematographer Josep M. Civit brilliantly use the exposure of flesh from the stunning cast to subtly show the "ghost" movements hit Adrián and Fabiana when they are at their most nakedly vulnerable.Casting Adrián's house in a golden light,Baiz reveals in an ultra-stylised manner, that despite looking glamorous on the outside, the house, and Adrián/ Fabiana & Belén each have a decaying darkness laying within.Surrounded by a gang of gorgeous girls, Quim Gutiérrez gives a wonderful performance as Adrián,with Gutiérrez showing that beneath Adrián's smooth charms hides a deep lack of long-term care for anyone else.Delivering an intense anger in the second half, the very pretty Clara Lago gives a marvellous performance as Belén,thanks to Lago showing a deep, mistrusting rage engulf Belén.Entering the movie with a sly smile, Martina García (who also appears naked in the title) gives an excellent performance as Fabiana, who García gives a sweet innocence to,which is torn apart to reveal viciously cynical edge,as Fabiana looks into the eyes of the hidden face.

Something like this could rarely be made in Hollywood. The plot is actually original and brilliantly executed, unlike modern American movies. It works as a psychological thriller, mystery and horror. Spanish cinematography is one of the best in the entire world. Sure, they tend to make strange and weird movies, but it happens that I enjoy watching such films. One thinks while watching, nothing is served on a plate like in American movies, so one feels engaged while watching, not disconnected and one cares what will happen to the characters. Everything is top notch in this film. The best part is the ambiguous ending, one is left wondering how it will all resolve and how would one behave in similar situation. The movie questions one's actions and a moral compass, whether anybody in the story has one or not. This will probably be remade in Hollywood, but it won't outdo this Spanish masterpiece.
