The Christmas Story Keepers Trailers

It is the early years of Christianity, and Emperor Nero is hellbent on destroying the lot of them. Caught up amongst the chaos are the homeless orphans of Rome fleeing from the fires Nero is starting to persecute the Christians. The orphans find their way to Ben and Helena, secret Christian leaders in Rome who are the "Story keepers" of the tales of Jesus. With their help, they flee the burning city and head out to a safe haven for the Christians. Along the way, they meet up with colorful characters of all walks of life while learning about the life of Jesus.

I personally don't think The Christmas Story Keepers is quite as good as the 1995 series The Story Keepers and The Easter Story Keepers, but that doesn't make it bad. In fact, I still enjoyed it very much. The animation quality with the odd flat character design and some use of "twinning" is not the best there is, and the picture quality could have been sharper, also it could have done with being about three or four minutes longer. However, I love the story, structurally you may say it is more reminiscent of a series of vignettes, but entertaining and educational they are. And some of it is very sweet without feeling forced. The writing is thoughtful, humorous and poignant, the music is harmless but I think really quite lovely too and the characters are likable. The best thing though when watching this is to not compare it to the likes of Disney and Pixar-and I'm sure there will be those who think this lacks the depth of any of their work, personally I don't find that fair seeing as strictly speaking this isn't a feature film but alongside Easter Story Keepers it is heads and shoulders above most of the animated direct to video releases- take this for what it is, that way you will be entertained. Overall, I liked it as a kid, at 19 I still do now. 8/10 Bethany Cox
