Christmas movies are a cottage industry. I don't mind watching them because I know the ending will always be happy. Now "The Christmas Candle" is not a great film. The film fails on at almost every level. The film is almost " A Touched By Angel" episode! It never rises above that level. It could of been better What it does well is that it sends the message about hope faith and miracles. The film however redeems itself in the final act and that was a miracle. The film looks beautiful. The sets make you think you are back in the late 19th century. The films screenplay however is borderline terrible but it does have a great final act. In this film Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village of Gladbury. Legend has it every 25 years an angel visits the village candle maker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights this candle receives a miracle on Christmas Eve. But in 1890, at the dawn of the electric age, this centuries old legend may come to an end. Now despite the flaws it is still worth seeing. Family Safe. Most kids will be bored and so will most adults. I did however love the final 10 minutes
... View MoreI don't remember when it was the last time that Hollywood gave us a real Christmas movie. Max Lucado has a knack for writing amazing stories and this one will not disappoint. Based on the popular novel by Lucado, this film stands in sharp contrast to the shallow, Santa-saturated sentimentality that surrounds it, offering up a significant spiritual question: What is the role of miracles in the world today? The Christmas Candle is a wonderful story, with marvelous actors and a great ending! It is a beautiful movie with a solid cast and amazing music. The Christmas Candle is not only a true "advent" story, but a fantastic holiday tale and a touching reminder of the value of using one's faith to create everyday miracles. Take your family to see it...It is the best gift you will give them this Christmas.
... View MoreThis was a wonderful Christmas movie that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas - helping each other and making our own miracles happen. This is a story about a minister who has had his faith shaken after a tragedy in his personal life. It was engaging as he made discoveries in himself while attempting to help a town that was obsessed with the "Christmas candle" legend. Both the minister and the town learn from each other. The surprise ending was a perfect way to wrap up the story. The acting was great and the costumes, scenery and cinematography were beautiful. We went as a family with teenagers and grandparents. It was enjoyed by young and old. Highly recommend this movie for Christians especially.
... View MoreI sweet, simple enjoyable Christmas film with a message of faith and hope. Beautifully filmed, with a lovely score, I think the film's weakness was a script that did not fully take advantage of the beautiful story of faith and prayer by Max Lucado. Still, "The Christmas Candle" is well worth your time with its message of miracles and faith. That said, I am saddened to see the effort to attack this film because of its Christian themes and because it is produced by Rick Santorum. Unfortunately, it seems that the secular progressives here will savage any film that dares present God/Jesus Christ in a positive light and will somehow find a way to work in pointless, ad hominem attacks against, of all things, the Tea Party into a movie review. Still, if you go see this film, you may find it in your heart to love those who find the need to attack people (and films) of faith and pray that, someday, they too will bathe in the healing light of "The Christmas Candle."
