Unlike most gangs, the ButterCream gang does good deeds. Their leader, Pete, has to go live with his aunt in Chicago. But things don't go well in Chicago and Pete is changed when he returns. Soon Pete is hanging around with the wrong crowd. But the remaining members of the gang, especially their new leader Scott, refuse to give up on their friend Pete.

You're right, this movie IS amazing. However, you forgot to mention: 1.) Pete's gang's diabolical takeover of the see-saws at the park. 2.) The awesome clothing 3.) Scott's Dad's persecution of Christians in Vietnam. 4.) The fact that the theme song reflects on life in the streets when there's only one real street in the whole town (the rest are ROADS). 5.) How Pete has this sloo-footed gangsta-walk (aptly accented by his highwater pants). 6.) The fact these kids are so cool, they don't watch TV for the shows, or even watch TV for that matter, they just recite commercials.Oh, yeah, and there are some great dancers in that town.

I don't know where to start. I actually just viewed the buttercream gang a few days ago and thought it was groundbreaking. I cant remember if I saw it when I was little but I'm glad i got to see it now. It is my friends favorite movie as a kid and we were shocked at how perfect this film was. The scene when Scott questions whether Pete stole the treats is pure cinematic bliss. "You're just like all the rest...your think I want it this way!!!" delivered by Pete Valdez is a line which I think equals any delivered in Gone With the Wind. The soundtrack is simply stunning, adding an emotional depth which would put any recent soundtrack to shame. The cast is perfect. Scott's dad gives an academy award worthy performance as a man struggling with making the right decisions for his family. But the real standout is actor Michael Weatherrred playing Pete "Valdez" Turner, a good kid who gets a taste of the thug life when he encounters "The Blades" gang while living with his aunt in Chicago. Pete comes back and goes against the buttercreamer code by breaking bottles, throwing firecrackers, stealing treats and apples, lighting fires, taking kids lunches, and teaching others they can have anything they want by just taking it. Pete's final breakdown in Graf's store is a scene I think will go down in film history as one of the most heartbreaking portrayals of a troubled youth coming to terms with his problems. I'm sure Spielberg or Scorsese will try to remake this film some day to cash in on an Oscar, but it will never match the genius of the original masterpiece. AND REMEMBER "Buttercream isn't just about helping people out.. it's about having fun."

One of the great masterpieces of our time, the buttercream gang takes a subtle approach to such important issues as the aryan nation, homo eroticism between childhood friends, and cheese. Younger viewers may not pick up on these themes and appreciate the movie as its makers intended- a commentary on how ideal our world would be if we all were fundamentalist conservative christians. Some concerned parents will object to the risqué dancing scene, and secular music, but this is where the film finds its "edge." The riveting story of pete, scott, lenny and eldon will have every viewer at the edge of their seat. Will the widow jenkins fall down again? will another flower bed fall victim to the harrowing actions of pete and his gang of troublemaker?? smiley face graffiti and broken bottles?? (you may want to cover the young ones eyes, these parts get pretty intense.) The climax of pete beating the p*ss out of canned goods is a moment in film history. So, strap on to this emotional roller-coaster if you dare, its worth the ride!

this movie is the most amazing piece of artwork i have ever seen. Did you notice that when Pete came back to Elk Ridge from Chicago he wanted to change his last name to Valdez? Those mormon screenwriters sure know how to make rascism funny. I really love this movie because it's reality based. You know, it really reminded me of the times in little league when i would stand up and start cheering "you got the right one baby!" 5 RANDOM REASONS WHY THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING1. The women know their roles in family life 2. That ungrateful Widow Jenkins makes the boys do her shopping after they save her life....she really gets my blood boiling! 3. The word candy does not exist in Utah. It has been replaced with.....................TREATS!!!!! 4. The bad gang is very menacing....throwing rocks at bottles, setting trash on fire, ding dong ditching, 'kick me' signs on backs, you name it 5. 4-MAN choreographed huffy skid-outs!!!!!!!!if this stuff doesn't excite you then STAY OUTTA UTAH!
