This movie is based on some con-artists who plan to steal the wealth of an eccentric family by claiming to be the long lost uncle. The plot of this movie was an average as we have seen many movies with this sort of stories but keep in mind this movie was released on the year 1991 and yes there was fantasy, there were lots to laugh in this movie from time to time. But I still feel it could have been made better. There was some really exceptional acting by everyone in this movie with great BGM and music from time to time.YES I would recommend people to give this movie a shot.My Rating 6/10

Based on the popular 1960s TV show, this energetic comedy focuses on an affluent family with a taste for the ghoulish and their lawyer who attempts to pass off an acquaintance as a long-lost relative of the kooky clan. The film has a lot of positive aspects, but best of all is Barry Sonnenfeld in the director's chair. Having entered the film scene as a cinematographer for the Coens, Sonnenfeld always ensures that the film is visually alive, from shots that run across the floor to shots that travel with golf balls through the air. The set design is magnificent too with the theme park style slide into the vault standing out in particular. If one thing disappoints though, it is the relatively little time dedicated to the Addams children, especially Christina Ricci's perfect deadpan line delivery. Some moments also drag on too long, most notably a dance sequence (though it was apparently edited down as it is). The vast majority of the film is very good news though, and surprisingly thoughtful too. While the goofiness gets a bit in the way, the film offers some heartfelt messages in terms of the importance of family as the Addams clan are loyal and loving for all their morbidity - not to mention far less prissy than others. Then there is Christopher Lloyd as the man posing as the long-lost relative whose sense of personal identity is shattered as he falls in love with the notion of being the very character that he is pretending to be since it is so much fun. Indeed, say what you want about the Addamses, they certainly get up to much fun just by not adhering to social norms.

"The Addams Family" is an American 95-minute movie from 1991, so this one has its 25th anniversary this year. The director is Barry Sonnenfeld and the characters are based on the work of Charles Addams. This movie was nominated for an Oscar in the costume category where it lost to Bugsy and Anjelica Huston was nominated for a Golden Globe where she lost to Bette Midler. So you already hear that Oscar winner Huston is in here, but there are more known names such as Christopher Lloyd (BttF), the late Raul Julia or the very young Christina Ricci, which means the cast is pretty exquisite. But no matter how colorfully they play their roles, this film is eventually just about the whole styles, costumes and sets as well as makeup really. It's about a family of undead and we see them during their everyday life as well as during their not so everyday life. There are many references about torture and murder in there, but it is all pretty funny and light. This film is a comedy fantasy movie and there is no intention from anybody to make this look like a horror film despite the protagonists. In my opinion, this was not really a good watch. Maybe it was okay by the standards back then, but I must say by today's standards the film has not aged well at all. This refers to the story mostly that I just did not find interesting or entertaining at all. It all felt very gimmicky and just one scene follows the next where the filmmakers tried to entertain the audience in a slightly shocking fashion, but there is no coherent plot in this movie despite the filmmakers trying pretty hard sometimes to achieve such. They weren't successful. Here and there, there was a somewhat memorable line (quote) or scene, but it was just not enough, neither in terms of quality, not in terms of quantity. Addams died a couple years before this film came out, but I somehow don't feel he really would have appreciated the outcome here. It is fairly underwhelming in my opinion. It is not a complete failure by any means, but looking at how popular and known the film's title still is today and how the characters are somewhat known too (especially Ricci's and Huston's), I was very unimpressed. The comedy also becomes repetitive fairly quickly. Thumbs down from me and I do not recommend the watch.

It seems like the film industry today is using the teenage goth subculture to make fast cash, producing bad films such as Hotel Transylvania (2012), Frankenweenie remake (2012) etc. but I still prefer movies like The Addams Family, where rather than trying to make a quick buck they think more about the quality of the movie. The acting is amazing, the movie is creepy yet comedic at the same time, the soundtrack is excellent and overall this is a very enjoyable film to watch. The Addams Family is a clan of bizarre, Gothic people, from circus freaks to punks to murderers to crazy people, and the film revolves around Gomez Addams and his strange family. They live in a mansion next to a toxic waste dump on a hill secluded from the conforming suburbs of the city. Gomez has his beloved wife Morticia, his trustworthy butler Lurch, his two children Wednesday and Pugsley, Granny (Morticia's mom), and their pet human hand, Thing. Although they are extremely creepy they are kind to everyone and avoid harming people for the most part, and are happy to live together in their home. When a long-lost relative, believed to be dead, shows up at the door, Gomez is thrilled. He'd been searching for his brother Fester, a fat bald man in a trench coat, for years, while everyone assume Fester was dead. What Gomez fails to realize is that Fester is actually Gordon, a man living with his loan shark mom and they've set up a scheme, along with the Addams' sleazy lawyer Tully, to take away everything from the Addams Family.I loved The Addams Family as a kid, and I still watch it every year. I highly recommend it, along with its 1993 sequel and the television show.
