This movie is weird and dumb. Its somewhat entertaining, though there's nothing particularly special. All the acting is pretty flat and awkward. There's nothing here that would lead me to recommending it, watching it again, or even thinking about it. Its just forgettable.
... View MoreAs someone who's never seen the show that this film is based on, I can't really say that I loved this film as much as I was hoping to. Not to say that this a bad film, as i'm almost 100% certain that fans of the show would love it. But, as someone who's never seen it before, this film just didn't grab me as much. One, the character development is mediocre at best, as all anyone who hasn't seen the show sees in this film fis a family that treats everything and everyone darkly and unkindly. And the story is much more reminiscent of something you might see on TV than in a film. Which, I understand why it is this way, considering that this film is mainly for fans of the show, but still. I feel like there could've been more work put in to bring newcomers into the dark world of the Addams Family. But I feel like this film doesn't quite hit the mark, and can seem more weird and kind of tiring than entertaining for those who haven't seen the show. But, I guess this film has enough morbidly great stuff, great performances, and dedication to how the show was to make most, if not all fans of the original show happy. So I can't say that this film is bad, as it's not at all. But it would've been a lot better if it also focused on pulling in new people rather than just make a film for the fans. Then again, who am I to judge what the film makers do? If you're a fan of the show, you'll definitely enjoy this film. But if you've never seen the show, it's more recommended to watch the show first, as this film doesn't seem to have enough character development or as good of a story structure to recommend otherwise. Overall, this films alright. If I ever do watch the show and then rewatch this film and if my opinion changes, I might delete this review and rewrite it. But until then, I think this film is just alright.
... View MoreThis not a funny movie at all. I do not know why people like this awful movie. It is not a 6.8 that is just overrating it. I give it a 4. Because the story line is awful. The hummer is sick and awful. I do not wast your time do not wast your money. See a good horror comedy like Young Frankenstein. Ghost busters is also a very good comedy. But not this movie. This movie is just awful and I do not know why people think it is funny. Ghost busters II is funny. Dracula dead and loving it is very funny. And this has got be one of the worst comedy movies from 1991.
... View MoreBased on the popular 1960s TV show, this energetic comedy focuses on an affluent family with a taste for the ghoulish and their lawyer who attempts to pass off an acquaintance as a long-lost relative of the kooky clan. The film has a lot of positive aspects, but best of all is Barry Sonnenfeld in the director's chair. Having entered the film scene as a cinematographer for the Coens, Sonnenfeld always ensures that the film is visually alive, from shots that run across the floor to shots that travel with golf balls through the air. The set design is magnificent too with the theme park style slide into the vault standing out in particular. If one thing disappoints though, it is the relatively little time dedicated to the Addams children, especially Christina Ricci's perfect deadpan line delivery. Some moments also drag on too long, most notably a dance sequence (though it was apparently edited down as it is). The vast majority of the film is very good news though, and surprisingly thoughtful too. While the goofiness gets a bit in the way, the film offers some heartfelt messages in terms of the importance of family as the Addams clan are loyal and loving for all their morbidity - not to mention far less prissy than others. Then there is Christopher Lloyd as the man posing as the long-lost relative whose sense of personal identity is shattered as he falls in love with the notion of being the very character that he is pretending to be since it is so much fun. Indeed, say what you want about the Addamses, they certainly get up to much fun just by not adhering to social norms.
