I saw this DVD sitting on the shelf at the rental store so many times, and I finally decided to actually watch it. Eventually it turned out to be such a disappointment. I hoped for more plot than just "LOL we are at the party and that's my crush" and blah blah blah, whatever this movie was supposed to be about. The story is really boring and only a few characters are relatable. The cover promised me the talented cast will make me laugh out loud. Sure, the cast is talented, like Topher Grace, Anna Faris, etc., but I don't think I laughed out loud once. The best thing about this movie is the 80s aesthetic, that's it.
... View MoreVery enjoyable movie full of great 80's concepts and growing up in the 80's.The soundtrack is top notch and excellent and so is the casting.Matt is a grad of MIT, but is lost in his career and work's in a Suncost video store...which was a staple of 80's malls. He is lost but one night, his high school crush returns home after college and he goes for it.Can Matt win Tori Federkin...and do women go for smart guys who work at Suncost? This movie is a very nice well written, fun, and inspiring and a great take on the 80's.The music is outstanding as is the acting.10 out of 10.....those of 80's and early 90's boomers will enjoy the ride.
... View More... just how much Topher Grace can you take at one time? I do not ask this question lightly. If you run Topher through the IMDb filter, you will find that this is the #1 film he is "known for." Which makes sense because here he is the co-producer, the co-writer, the star, and he has the most screen time.It is almost but not quite a vanity project (see for example how Will Smith wrapped his son up in the Karate Kid redux) and frankly those seldom end well.Personally I think the IMDb rating tells the story better than I can.The reviews are simply not that positive. In other words, Topher is no Ferris Bueller. His odd screen persona, he is sort of a nerd who not only seems uncomfortable in his own character, he makes the audience uncomfortable as well, does not endear itself to you the longer you watch.

But Matt's silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer), walks into the store. When she invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party, Matt thinks he finally might have a chance with the girl of his dreams. With his cynical twin sister Wendy (Anna Faris) and best friend Barry (Dan Fogler), Matt embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime evening. From stealing a car to a marriage proposal to an indescribable, no-holds-barred dance-off, these friends share experiences that will change the course of their lives on one unforgettable night in the Go-Go 80s
