The producers love to take the credit for things well done, and slip behind the guise of lack of accountability when movies fail. This movie falls into the latter category. It is an example of what can happen when the producers limit all artistic control of anyone who reports to them. Heck, as stated at Sundance, the director did not even have an opportunity to see the movie after shooting until Sundance! I think this movie should be a lesson to all producers about what not to do:if you hire a director with a history of success, trust them, let them direct. For people aspiring to become directors: learn what can happen if you foresee no artistic freedom under a producer. For movie-goers who love movies, stay away from this one.
... View MoreI admit I rented this film with a friend of mine on a really bad weather day to see Amber Benson in something other than Buffy episodes. I also admit that I love this genre. Horror, sci-fi and thrillers are the back bone of my DVD collection. Now, stating that, she was wasted on this film. I don't know what the point was of this film. It was bad enough that we fast forwarded through any scenes Amber wasn't in. The writing, the acting (outside of Amber but I am bias) and the overall film, was slow, irritating. Maybe the poor writing is to blame for the lack of acting ability. Regardless of who is in it, there is only so much you can do with horrific material. It wasn't campy, enjoyable or even worth the fee to rent it.
... View MoreJust finished this movie... saw it on the video shelf and being a Nick Stahl fan I just had to rent it. In all honesty, it probably should have stayed on the shelf. The concept was an interesting one and there were several fairly smart twists and turns but somehow I guessed almost all of them before they came along. And the movie just went a little too far in the end in my opinion... if you have to suffer through a viewing of it you'll see what I mean!On a positive note, Nick Stahl's acting was great (especially considering what he had to work with). Eddie Kaye Thomas was also good but he always plays the same type of character... too much Paul Finch from "American Pie" coming through for my liking. And finally, the worst part of this movie has to be January Jones' emotionless performance... I guess a pretty face really is all that matters in Hollywood.
... View MoreSome bad kids (in more ways than one!) settle their behavioral problems in a creepy old house on a stormy night. Trite. Goofy and uneven, to say the least, but there's no excuse for the omission of gratuitous sex and violence in a trash flick like this, which is supposedly aimed at the youth market. Unattractive.
