Got the main elements of a classic western in its story, with a aura of lunacy and insanity in the central characters, and a good plot to watch. Thought it would be pure cliché and bad shot, but it was actually pretty good. Maybe you can say its a Predictable plot, but not exactly a cliché, and resolved, not like most of movies nowadays in which directors seem too proud to end the story in the way that the expectator wants it to end, so it's not and ending in which you turn off the TV pissd off.Ed Harris is pretty funny actually, and i'm not usually a big fan of him. Lucius malfoy is doing what he does best, chilly evil son of a gun. The lady doesn't talk much, her acting is good, and the character is coherent. just found myself with thumbs up, like 'there you go, woman!"

It's kind of hard to believe that "Sweetwater" was an official entry in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, given that it's not only packed with bloody violence and sexual elements, its storyline is more or less just that of another revenge western. But if you've read plenty of my other user comments, you'll know that I welcome a movie with plenty of violent and/or sexual touches. And while I have seen plenty of revenge western plots in movies, I am still open to seeing another one as long as it's done well. I will admit that in this particular telling, it does move a LOT slower than what you usually get. And there are no real surprises along the way to really shake things up and get the viewers guessing what will happen - you'll be able to predict what happens long before it does unfold. But the performances are good (Jason Isaacs makes for a great hateful villain), the movie is well produced for what had to be a real low budget, and I admit that I was not bored at any moment, even during the really slow portions. This is not a movie that will make you think, and it doesn't have any real artistic intentions, but if you are in the mood for a revenge western, it does satisfy.

This movie might not be like the usual old school westerns but I surely enjoyed it. As an atheist I already hated the priest/prophet Josiah from the first minute I saw him. And him being a racist as well he was the perfect character to hate. Jason Isaacs puts down a good performance playing the villain prophet. Ed Harris as the lunatic sheriff Jackson is also great in his role. And so is January Jones as Sarah Ramírez, the former prostitute that goes on a killing spree as revenge. I thought the whole cast did a good job. The story was well written, started slowly but build up to a climax. Certainly one of the better westerns I have seen lately.

This western is good because it has simple details of everyday menial experiences brought into magnified observation like the Coen Brothers and Quentin Tarentino incorporate into their films that people personally identify with. Very good writing and directing. The character behavior is realistic for the period with a unique cast of established actors that have a track record of rolls in unusual movies similar to No Country for Old Men. January Jones, Ed Harris, and Mr. Root, the judge, from Justified, add the quirky features you will find worth your time. This is a no-nonsense simple story of detective work with refreshing deviance from stupid Hollywood fare.
