The story takes place on Little Tall Island...off the coast of Maine to no surprise to King fans. A stranger named Andre Linoge (Colm Feore) comes to the island needing a dentist, but instead kills old Martha Clarendon (Rita Tuckett) and watches her TV as two fronts come together as they are in for a "storm of the century." The stranger ends up in Constable Mike Anderson's (Tim Daly) jail...but strange things begin to happen and the stranger knows all of the island's dirty little secrets and is willing to share them with the whole town. He wants something to leave....This is rather a long film. As far as Stephen King and religious themes, I liked "1408" better. King did work a cameo as a lawyer on a flyer as he sometimes does. The phrase, "Give me what I want and I will go away" was eerily repeated, something King copied from himself (The Shining). Also King's other novel/character "Dolores Claiborne" is mentioned in this film, which took place in the same location. The film is actually a short story made long by King to develop character...everyone's character. As far as entertainment about a film with a stranger, the plebeian in me likes "Traveler" with the fat Val Kilmer better.

When i was younger, i used to go to the local video rental shop and rent movies i haven't even heard before. Storm of the Century was no exception. I was looking for interesting movies and i got this movie in my hands. I read the description and thought "Wow... Almost 4,5 hours". The plot seemed interesting so i rented it and watched it. It was worth for every penny. Very slow story telling, thrilling atmosphere and Colm Feore's excellent performance was enough to give this movie 10/10. Movie this long has to be very interesting or you'll fall asleep before it reaches half way. Watching Storm of the Century 4,5 hours passes faster than you could ever think of.

I was skeptical of this film when I first set my eyes on watching it with my boyfriend. It seemed long and drawn-out, and I didn't have much interest in watching a horror film for hours on end. When the first episode started, you were introduced to every-day life in the town and a murder that happened. But as the episode progressed, more and more mysteries popped up and into the second episode, a mysterious being emerged and made itself present to the town folk to demand something of them. This suspense was maintained throughout the second episode and into the third one, where there was a climactic ending. Overall, I'm glad I did watch it because it was enjoyable and suspenseful to the end. It didn't seem as long as it did, and well worth the watch if you're into mystery and horror. Good acting and highly entertaining.

Having just spent over four hours of my life watching this piece of 'entertainment', one must question why on earth this was ever considered worthy of public consumption. Not only this, but WHY does every single review on IMDb rate this so highly?? Surely standards for entertainment must be slipping. This film could have easily been condensed to HALF AN HOUR and would still have dragged on for too long. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, or find myself in the middle of a storm and question whether this film was actually a work of pure genius...but in daylight, I know better...in daylight, I know better.
