State of Emergency Trailers

Chaos consumes a small town when a chemical facility explodes releasing a deadly toxin. Moments after the leak, the town's residents show signs of mutation, causing the military to quarantine the area leaving any survivors helpless and trapped inside. The story follows Jim, a young man isolated within the red zone, as he eludes flesh eating zombies in an attempt to win back his freedom.

Doesn't really do anything new with the Zombie genre. It's the same old story about few survivors coming together to survive, and form a bond while they're at it. Even ends with a fairy-tale Disney Ending, to keep everybody happy. The only problem is, the survivors are as interesting as watching paint dry on a wall, same goes for the zombies who occasionally attack and never really do any damage. Only interesting and creepy bit comes with a "slight" twist to the zombies through an old woman zombie. But that's it. Overall, I was disappointed. Acting is OK and it would've worked fine in a movie with better script and more going on than just a farm the director rented for the weekend shoot. Could've pulled it off easily with a low budget, like Shaun of the Dead did.

An accident at a nearby chemical plant has turned an entire community into a virus infected undead. As the story begins Jim (Hayden) is trying to tend to his fatally wounded fiancée Emilie (McKenna Jones) who was attacked by one of the infected. Jim finds shelter inside a horse stable and quickly closes things up tight. He must face the disturbing fact that Emilie is going to die. He listens to the radio and watches TV gaining information. He is awoken to sounds inside the stable which lead to a thrilling and scary showdown between himself and a zombie which has found his way in. Out of the blue he gets a phone call at the stable from Scott (Lilly) a survivor who is holed up in a warehouse across from the stable and invites Jim to join him. Jim makes his way over and joins Scott, his wife Julie (Norman) and a girl named Ix (White) who initially clashes with Jim. Jim quickly becomes the leader of the small band of survivors as they fight for survival as the infected become aware of their presence. A romantic relationship is brewing between Ix and Jim when she takes ill. The group await rescue but need medicine dropped by the military in the area for Ix to survive. Jim ventures out in a thrilling scene to obtain it. State of Emergency is an excellent low budget horror film that plays with the zombie genre. Writer/Producer/Director Turner Clay crafts a small and simple zombie film that reflects how you and I might react of something like this happened. Jim is an ordinary guy and so are the other characters. In other words, these guys aren't hitting the bull's-eye every time they point a gun at a zombie and shoot. They miss and try again like we would if we were in that type of stressful situation. Clay makes all these characters believable and keeps his movie the same way giving it real credibility over many bigger budgeted zombie films flooding the market. We care about these people and want them to survive and are truly on their side, like in George Romero's first two Dead films. Clay plays with the genre in interesting ways like the zombies themselves. Many times they are just standing in the middle of a field waiting to react to sounds they hear or something they see. They are ferocious when they need to be and the film has some decent gore. The small cast, low number of infected and minimal locations would sink a lesser film but this one actually benefits from it because of its strong characters. The film definitely delivers many tense situations and scenes that deliver the horror goods along with solid scares. The cast is good with lead Jay Hayden turning in a great performance as Jim. Turner Clay in a truly breath of fresh air, memorably ends his film in such a deeply emotional way that takes his film to another level.

I read some of the other reviews for State of Emergency and was pleasantly intrigued. All seemed to talk about it having less gore and more story. And I'm cool with that. As a fan of zombie films in general, I've seen gore in all its forms, so a film based around a decent story would also suit me.It's about a viral outbreak which turns most of a town into zombies (or perhaps I should say 'infected' as they run and behave a lot more like the creatures from 28 Days Later, or Dawn of the Dead 2004 edition).Sadly, I couldn't see much evidence of a story. The first quarter of an hour has no dialogue. We just follow our hero after his girlfriend has died (somehow) and now he's left creeping around a barn and, on the few occasions he encounters a zombie, he always manages to drop or leave behind his weapon (really bugged me!). However, he's saved when he hikes across a field and takes refuge in a warehouse with three really boring and unlikeable characters. Once inside, they spend their time watching zombies standing there in fields (I didn't get this bit!). Not only that, but his previous girlfriend may have only been dead a few hours, but - by an amazing coincidence - one of the other humans is a suitable girlfriend replacement. It's a short film and kind of feels like it's set at the same time as 28 Days Later, or rather Dawn of the Dead 2004 (but minus the budget of either). There's the (seemingly obligatory) CGI blood added to the few zombie deaths we see on screen. It's not a bad film. I just didn't find it as good as some of the other reviews were making it out to be. Ironically, people don't seem to like the ending. I thought the ending made a nice change!http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/

With apocalypse movies on the rise and the media being over saturated with movies of this kind, a lot of movies have plots and tropes that get spread over all of them. Luckily this movie does NOT share that in common.I had this movie playing in the background while doing some chores until a scene really interested me. So I quickly reminded, sat down and watched the whole movie. That's when I realized that even gems can be found on netflix and not just stupid background movies. This movie takes all these apocalypse and zombie tropes and throws them away for a better, calmer, and nicer script. As I said, the movie is slower, but it goes for a more psychological and more realistic view on what people would do in a State of Emergency. I honestly extremely enjoyed this movie just for being different, but it goes beyond that. The cast is likable and while there's not a lot of talking in the beginning of the film, it makes sense and character development as well as story development is displayed very well in other ways. It's rare for the acting to dip as the characters are very well wrote and casted. This movie is good enough that I'd buy it. This movie is better then most of the crap that has made it to theaters recently. I usually don't like slower paced movies but this one keeps you interested even if it is at a slower moment. So in the end the movie is free on streaming, it's original, it's not full of tropes, and it's amazing! How can you go wrong?
