Spotlight is about the Boston Globe's 2001 article, regarding a huge child molestation scandal and its cover up. The spotlight team race to uncover the details about the victims and the scale of this crime. The journalists are invested in the case, because they want justice done to all these people who have been wronged. The film focuses on the investigation and publication. Spotlight is absolutely riveting. Everything is top notch : the acting, script, pace, score and direction. To start with the acting, it's phenomenal. Michael Keaton plays Robbie Robinson, a veteran writer and the leader of the spotlight team. Keaton's acting is great as this guy, who's no hero, but is devoted to getting this article done perfectly. His acting is quite subdued, in the best way possible. Rachel McAdams plays Sacha Pfeiffer, a journalist whose life is affected by this tragedy. McAdams is very good, especially in one sentimental scene with her grandmother. Liev Shreiber is a surprising standout as well. His acting is, similar to Michael Keaton, subdued. Mark Ruffalo plays Mike Rezendes, the most desperate of the team, dedicated to getting this article published. Ruffalo is also quite good. The group have good chemistry and are believable as this exhausted and hard working team who aren't heros, but are looking for proper justice. The film is very well written. It moves at a good pace, never dragging. I was not bored for one scene because of the excellent screenplay. The information is released at a satisfying rate, every piece being impactful. This allows a gripping view of this grueling investigation. The tone of this real life story is grim, but never TOO dark. I appreciated this, because it allowed the film to be grounded in reality, while not being too depressing. The actors' work combined with the screenplay achieve something fantastic. The soundtrack, composed by Howard Shore is extraordinary. He perfectly captures the bleak tone of the movie. The score really enhances the experience, complementing the movie. Shore's sombre piano notes makes us feel the journalists' hard work and the reality of the situation. Tom McCarthy's direction is solid. The shots are well done and the overall look fits the movie well. This is a sad true story and I feel like McCarthy has succeeded in showing it to us. The atmosphere reflects the weight of the subject and the consequences it had on people's lives. This mood definitely affects the replayability. The film also succeeds in being emotional throughout it's procedural story. One scene involving Mark Ruffalo in a church was quite poignant. Overall, I think Spotlight will become a classic. Its realistic tone and melancholy score combined allow for an emotional experience. The film is expertly acted and perfectly paced. It's a great drama that keeps you interested all the way through.

Since I am studying journalism, our professor showed us this movie during our class and I am happy she did so, since I felt ashamed that I did not know this movie until then. It shows how hard, dedicated and loved journalism as profession really is and at the same time, it shows the truth that hides behind the curtain. There is a reason why journalism and journalists are called the 7th power of society, and this movie is a clear proof about that. It reminds people once again that they need to be careful with their surroundings, even when the church is the subject of matter.

This movie has a really good flow which opens everyone's eye. Somethings we never even think, but unfortunately exists. This story makes us realize that people are s**t even for the few years they live. I'm a Buddhist, but I admit this can be the sad truth in any religion, because people are so weird and unpredictable. Its really good to get a chance to watch a movie like this to get our eyes open. Thanks.
