Fresh to Las Vegas with no connections, Nomi Malone takes a job as an exotic dancer. Her talents are quickly noticed by Cristal, a headlining dancer who senses an opportunity to bolster her own act. But Nomi won’t play second fiddle and soon begins her venomous path to the top, ruthlessly backstabbing anyone who gets in her way.

There's a point in this film, where it takes a sharp, serious and dark turn, out of damn near nowhere, and it's that moment in the movie that encapsulates just how unfocused Showgirls is.If I was to take this movie seriously, it would be a 3.5/10. If I weren't to take it seriously, then it would be 6/10. The sexiness and erotica points of the film were done relatively well, however, the story, the acting and over acting, the pace and those hilariously ridiculous seizure fests they tried to pass off as dancing or some kind of choreography were just too shockingly laughable.Showgirls is sexy, especially Elizabeth Berkley, and is as progressive as any ordinary film tends and needs to be without being static, however, it ran longer than it had to, and that just stretched an already poorly handled story too thin. Its structure and pace doesn't allow one to feel the necessary emotions of sympathy, however parts like what happens in the beginning of the movie give it some edge. I'll meet Showgirls halfway and give it 5/10.

"Showgirls" is an exotic dancer's fantasy of making it big in Las Vegas. It's not like the imagined talent and fame in "Chicago (2002)." It's more like the climb in "Black Swan (2010)," but with the "who you know" angle rather than mere skill. The most notable aspect of this movie is its female-centered erotica throughout. While movies such as "In the Realm of the Senses (1976)" are much more revealing toward sex acts, "Showgirls" emphasizes nudity; and keen remote-control handlers can easily verify what they thought they just saw. Such daring is a plus, even though this movie is surprisingly lacking in extreme close-ups. (They seem to angle it more towards sexual dance.)What makes this movie unique is the main character's defensiveness. She refuses to be taken advantage of. The tricky part for the prophesying viewer is that Nomi reacts in ever-different ways (which are often extreme), with perceptions of people's motives that don't always jive with YOUR perceptions. Her moods may easily be seen as random, as if the scriptwriter couldn't draft a consistent personality. Anyway, it's a minus for those few consumers who watch it for the story — which is a bit long (video: 2 hours 11 minutes).Although it's not a tragedy, it includes bad things happening to good people, further lowering the entertainment value.

It's been a few years since I've seen Showgirls so decided to back and give it another try. Yup, it is horrible. Just a terrible movie. Some of it is just to corny and the rest just bad. If you could have a fun drinking game, you could have a shot every time Nomi gets angry, like yelling, tossing her fries, or storming out - you would be drunk in the first five minutes of the film. The characters are just over the top and not one likable person in the entire cast. I don't know what Elizabeth Berkley was thinking to go full nude like that in her first movie, but it sure sunk her career. Gena Gershon, well, just an irritating character, which I guess does say something good about her. But this whole calling everyone 'darlin' every two seconds was irritating. The rest of the girls in the cast, well lets just say pretty much all of them were probably promised a big starring role by the producers if they just got naked for this one film. hahaha,,, live and learn girls. A terrible movie.

I don't mind a movie tackling stripping, stripping is a pretty big deal in the U.S., it shouldn't be labeled as not worthy of adaptation. BUT, Showgirls is the most empty, cheesy, shallow and cliché movie I ever got to witness. And that statement has a strong meaning. The dialogue is awful, the acting is unbearable, the actors end up forcing you to hate them, their facial expressions infuriated me because these actors have absolutely no respect for seriousness, that is required in a big budget movie. Then, the sex, where is it ? I didn't see any. All there is, a is a clip of a sex scene in a pool where the girl's back hits the water which has to be the most laughable sex scene of all time. No, if you're thinking you're getting a highly-exciting nude content, you'll be disappointed. These actors don't even try to make an effort.
