The decade of disco, the 70s was ruled by the BeeGees especially after the release of Saturday Night Fever. So this film starring them with Peter Frampton should have been a slam dunk with the box office and the critics. It was neither and the critics really pounced on it.Post 1965 Beatles music formed the score of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band and the film is essentially fantasy opera. Frampton is in the title role and the BeeGees were the other band members. No use to describing a plot, knitting the whole film together and giving it some structure is the voice of George Burns who utters the only speaking words in the film. I guess no one asked sugar throat Burns to sing.A bunch of guest artists are here and if you are into that decade's music as well as Lennon-McCartney you will enjoy the film no matter what the critics say. They weren't kind, but I don't think it was that bad.The kaleidoscopic colors of the decade's fashions really kind of overwhelm the viewer. That and the fact that Peter Frampton was the prettiest one in the film. Some of the scenes come close to soft core porn. But it's the music you want with a film like Sergeant Pepper so sit back and enjoy.

I grew up listening to the Beatles. I loved their music and still do.I was 19 when this movie came out. I saw it the first weekend. How can the Beatles and my favorite groups miss? IMO, they didn't.This was never meant to be a serious movie. It was not meant to be a serious movie. It was meant to be campy. It was meant to be a tribute to the music of the Beatles and the songs from the Sgt Pepper Album. The songs, as performed, are not exactly like how the Beatles did it, and I like that. Only the Beatles are the Beatles. These groups covered their songs as themselves and, IMO, did very well at it.Finding out that these musicians and singers can do camp and comedy was a nice surprise.I recommend this movies if you just want to have fun. Don't watch with the thought of taking it seriously. If you do you are going to be disappointed.Make sure you pay attention to the woman who plays Strawberry Fields, Sandy Farina. She has an astounding voice.

I was about 10 years old when it came out -- and a funny thing happens when you see a "bad" movie at an age when every movie is good -- you grow up liking it, even if it's more for the nostalgic memories! So this is a film that mesmerizes me, even in my 40s. First of all, the BeeGees were huge -- frickin HUGE! And it's fun to see them in all their 70s glory. I had no idea who Frampton was, just that he was cute. To this day I still listed to some of the soundtrack -- Earth Wind and Fire do a fabulous rendition of Got To Get You Into My Life. I like it better than the Beatles version. I also love "You Never Give Me Your Money" As far as the campiness, what's not to like? It's like getting together with friends, having a drink, and watching old Godzilla movies. Gotta smile! :)

I saw this 3x at the movies when I was 6 years old (in 1978). There are no words to describe how much i loved it & the impact it had on me. Probably the best memory from my childhood (i did have a pretty shitty childhood). I saw it again recently & remembered every scene & how it played out. This film gave me a life-long love of Beatles' music & the firm belief that music is the reason for living. Not a bad legacy for supposedly the worst film ever made. Yeah it's cringe-worthy & the acting (if you can call what, in particular, the Bee Gees do in this film 'acting') is embarrassing, but it seems almost everyone who saw this as a kid is a major fan. It really should've been marketed as a kids film. This film remains very close to my heart & gets 10 stars from me.
