Sheldon Wilson directs this scare fest for Syfy Pictures about an old scarecrow that stands in an abandoned cornfield and will be the focus of a Scarecrow Festival that has run for over a hundred years. A group of teens seek out a deadly scarecrow on the eve of the fall harvest festival. The urban legend claims "it never sleeps, never dies and lives to kill". The blood lusting scarecrow wants to seek revenge on the descendants of its original captor. But actually, anyone will do to turn the corn rows into a bloody graveyard. The legend needs nurturing. The story line sounds familiar and predictable until things go "willy-nilly" in the night. Actually a lot of fun.The cast features: Lacey Chabert, Robin Dunne, Nicole Munoz, Richard Harmon, Lanie McAuley, Reilly Dolman and Julia Maxwell.
... View MoreI believe that Scarecrow was the first made-for-TV movie that I've actually ever seen, so before-hand I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. Right off the bat any concerns I may have had were answered and made redundant and I find myself enjoying the movie right away. The budget, the acting (deserves huge praise) and the quality of production were all very good and made for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The pacing of the movie was excellent and made sure that there was never a dull moment for me to lose interest. The story itself was not perfect and without spoiling anything there were a couple of inconsistencies, mainly regarding how/if the scarecrow could be killed, but these do not lessen the overall experience.I'd recommend this strongly to any horror lover, especially those who enjoy younger casts.
... View MoreIf all horror clichés were made into a movie, this would be it. The movie was very predictable. The characters lacked common sense and thinking capacity that would've saved their lives.*possible spoilers*One thing I never really understood was how the group got up a pit using a rope hanging from a splinter. I can't even comprehend how the splinter managed to support 5 people to get out.Additionally, the movie's deliberate attempt to shock by reducing the group's large number is saddening. The pointless attempt to 'sacrifice' animals to save them is more of a weak idea than an aha moment.Speaking of aha moments, the characters only started thinking of ideas to stall the creature very late in the movie. Most of them also died because of being led by their emotions rather than using their wit.I do find the concept of the legend a bit creative, the actors were good and the CGI is admirable.
... View MoreI was very skeptical when I first thought about watching this movie. I mean, lets face it. Most syfy channel original movies suck. Horrible acting, actors in their 30's portraying "teens", horrible story, limited gore, and horrible creature cgi effects. Look at "Sharknado" as a prime example. But this...this was actually pretty good. The "kids" are once again all obviously actors well past that stage in their life, and while there's one or two that couldn't act their way out of a paper bag, the majority of the cast is descent. Thete's actually a plot, and...surprise surprise, it actually makes sense. While the scarecrow is completely cgi, and obvious at that, its better than most creature effects in syfy channel movies, and one of the cooler looking ones at that. And you see it quite often after the first half. While there isn't much in terms of gore or blood, there is one surprisingly bloody scene in the beginning of the movie, and looks like it would hurt like hell. All in all, a surprisingly decent effort by a cable channel that is known to have horrible movies.
