Running for Grace Trailers

An orphan boy of mixed race finds family with the newly arrived white village doctor in Hawaii. The boy can run like the wind, and begins bringing Doc's medicine to coffee pickers throughout the mountainous region. On an errand, the medicine runner meets the daughter of the plantation owner and a forbidden, young love blossoms like the white "Kona Snow" of the surrounding coffee trees.

OK, I'm biased because I live on the Big Island where this was filmed. Still, I give the movie a great review because even though it is a somewhat simple love story, it does blends in other aspects of Hawaii life back then. The movie is a feel-good love story and it is worth seeing. I actually bough tickets and took friends.Because it was filmed here, almost everyone in the theater waited through all the credits to see who they knew. At one point in the film I saw some farmland and realized that I had been in that spot a few months back.

Running for Grace beautifully blends the scenic Big Island with a story that captures the hearts of its viewers. David Cunningham did a very good job directing the film by keeping it on the Big Island and by casting actors that are passionate about the story and the history of the early residents during that time. This movie is a must-see for the whole family!

I totally LOVED this movie!!! Incredibly beautiful scenery (great to see it on the big screen), and great story-line with good moral content (pro-adoption, anti-prejudice) and all the right elements of love, action, historical accuracy for early 20th century Hawaii, and conflict between good and evil. Matt Dillon's acting was epic...as was Cole (young Jo, the medicine runner - how can anyone be so naturally cute!!!) and Ryan Potter as older Jo. Wonderful! I've seen it three times, just to try to capture all of the scenery and hidden treasures in the story. I've taken a different friend each time to share the fun!!

I enjoyed Running for Grace a second time in theater - it's perfect for the whole family. I discovered a lot about Hawaii and it's landscapes and history through the film too. What beautiful shots and powerful themes of love, loss and adoption! It was fun seeing big actors like Matt Dillon and Jim Caveziel across from first timers like little Cole (ridiculously cute) and others.
