I agree somewhat with the other reviewers : this movie's genre is a strange mix of thriller and comedy. The comedy is good ; the thriller is insufficient. And indeed, it is too bad, that the smaller roles are played by amateurs. Also, the final scene is unnecessary. If the movie would have ended with the ambulance speeding off, the story would have been more exciting. The best aspect of the movie is, that, until the end, you're not sure if the man has actually kidnapped the game show host's wife & child. Strange that Kim van Kooten plays such a small role. I did enjoy viewing the movie. I even laughed once or twice. And that makes it worth it!
... View MoreDick Maas is not known for his masterpieces, instead most of them are trash and Quiz... well... it's quite disappointing. Pity as it is, the story itself is promising: A quiz-show presenter is confronted by a stranger in a restaurant while waiting for his wife and daughter who a trapped in traffic due to an unexplained malfunctioning car. Soon it seems that the stranger knows more about the presenters family then taken for granted...The problem with this movie is that Maas apparently does not know what kind of movie he wants to make. For a thriller it is not exciting enough and the bad written dialogs are not making things better. The camera-work is sloppy and the music, which Maas makes as well, is the same as in all his movies; terrible. Some of the actors, especially the Italian waiter, are acting below average and it remains a mystery why Maas didn't cast an Italian actor in the first place.Hopefully Maas will do better next time. In this case it's a missed chance.
... View MoreI chose to see this movie because I had seen all the other ones playing at the time. I am glad I did, because it is a master piece. It is low budget, but thats OK. I don't need Michael Bay explosions. Low budget movies have to focus on a good idea, a good story. Combine that with excellent acting performances and the result is this movie. The only time you saw this was low budget, was when a cop said one sentence and you spontaneously face palmed yourself out of shame for his lack of talent. It is a thriller filled with hilarious conversations. A must see. The only small remark I have was the fact that there was no nudity. What was that all about? A Dutch movie from Dick Maas and no nudity?
... View MoreVery nice movie. Didn't expect much of it (because Dutch movies tend to be very bad) but really enjoyed this one. Especially the end, very different from how most movies in this genre end. And Pierre Bokma, as usually, excelled very much. Pierre doesn't act a role, he IS the character he is playing. The movie has some references to actual events from the past. For example, a finger of one of the hostages is cut off as a proof that she was indeed kidnapped. Just like the kidnap of Gerrit Jan Heijn in 1987. There's not very much physical violence in the movie, well, some but not scary. One bad thing though was the Italian owner of the restaurant. His Italian accent was, to say the least, not very convincing. On the other hand: after a while this got very hilarious.
