It may be "groundbreaking" because it has a Muslim dominatrix, and? That's the one-trick pony for this entire thing. It has a Muslim dominatrix. Honestly, that's it. Because it's too difficult for the Muslim faith to understand sexuality in any context outside of itself and like most religions will condemn and harm what it never will understand, let's make a movie to make sure that the religion is tweaked that little bit more. It's an art movie, it's disjointed, has very little in terms of plot, doesn't really say much other than to constantly show shock images after shock images probably just to get a rise out of the fundamentalists. And? That's it folks. It just really isn't that good a movie outside of the shock factor. And, if you're not a devout Muslim, it won't shock you. If you are a devout Muslim, you're only watching it to be outraged.

Very difficult to review, indeed, I notice there are very few reviews out there. It is a beautiful film to look at and it occurs to me that it might have made an even more successful photographic exhibition as every frame seems worth framing, as you might say. But I am being frivolous, which this extreme and very serious film is not. Not strictly a narrative movie we nevertheless follow a day or daydream or week in the life of a Jordan born beauty who having worked as a prostitute now specialises as a Fem Dom dominatrix whilst worrying over her lack of understanding of the Koran. This mix of Muslim and SM sex is somewhat worrying particularly when the sex scenes get strong, which they do (even more so in the extras!) and much as the leading lady is serious about her quest she clearly is strongly attached to her sex partner, played by Molly plunk who seems to find both the sex and the religion a great joke. Oh and there is much consuming of alcohol and hard drugs, even during some of the bondage scenes which seemed a bit scary. Overall, well worth seeing if you are open minded enough and can take the extreme stuff, if only for the remarkably beautiful imagery, settings, naked bodies and not forgetting the marvellous costumes and great original music.
