Preservation Trailers

Three family members head deep into the woods for a hunting trip that doubles as a distraction from their troubles at home. When all of their gear is stolen, they turn on each other, but soon realize there are much more treacherous forces at work.

Acting is insulting. I love how nonchalant she is from being hit on by her brother in law (no emotion), waking up to the tent being taken out from under her and all supplies stolen (no emotion), hears a gun shot when she's all alone (nothing). I mean, this is either terrible writing or directing... everything about it.... you might need drugs to enjoy this film.

Two brothers and one's wife go for a hunting weekend to a preservation. Before they know it they are in trouble. But also is this flick. It takes a bit too long before the trouble comes in. Once it does not that much is explained. The first kill is done with an animal (dog)so revenge is on it's way once he discovers that his dog is being killed. The problem is that the two brothers fall for the same wife and she's pregnant so soon they think they are after each other. As viewer it's shown it isn't. The killer in the woods is some kind of supernatural one, being stabbed and smashed with a gun a few times he still stands up and goes for his kills. But he's not alone...Once the killings are done and there's one survivor this horror turns into a survival/revenge horror. That's the best part, reminded me of the excellent Eden Lake (2008). Still, it's full of plot holes and we move from one scene to another without anything explained or making sense. On part of the red stuff, it do flows here and there and the sewing scene can be disgusting for some. If you can sit through the first hour then this turns out fine as a horror. You know that your movie flops when the only likable character in your movie is a German Shephard dog.Not only are the characters annoying and as if taken from a soap-opera, they also decide to set out torturous bear-traps frivolously in a nature reservation as a hunting method (anyone who does that, clearly deserve to get what's coming for them). Now, it is still possible to make a good movie with solely unlikable characters, however only if the characters are interesting and script is good. Which really is not the case here and it takes 35 minutes before even something gets going, again had the characters been interesting or likable that would have been a non-issue but as they aren't this is tiring.I will say one positive thing though, the cinematography is perfectly fine so it's not completely without merit.Watch something good instead like 'EDEN LAKE (2008)' or 'I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (2012)'or 'BACKCOUNTRY (2014)' and gives this a skip, I wish I would have.

Sometimes, the smallest of twists in the most common of stories, can make all the difference. Preservation is nothing you haven't seen before, as it features three hikers who get lost in the woods and are then hunted, while trying to find their way out. The real difference in this film is who is hunting them and why. To me, the scariest horror films are the ones that are believable. The events of this film could really happen and that is more terrifying than any ghost or goblin that Hollywood can create. Aside from the trip to the woods, there is a back story that features the hikers, making them seem all the more real to the audience. Unlike many similar film, the innocent hikers are people the audience will feel like it knows and they feel like people one can relate to. Preservation also features differences from other similar films, in the methods that the hunted use. How many times have you watched a film and said, "these people are stupid, I would never do that in a situation like this!?" In Preservation, they don't make those mistakes, in fact, they pretty much do everything a reasonable person would do. Finally, the cast is almost entirely made up of newcomers and they are truly terrific. Wrenn Schmidt is the kind of common hero that people tend to love, while Cody Saintgnue is the baby face who could do no wrong. At first I thought this film would be just like every other romp through the woods, but it's so much better than that. The film is extremely realistic and very well written, making it one of those independent films that you want to tell all your friends about.
