The main actors did amazing here! The storyline wasn't that amazing, but the main actors made it funny in a weird way.
... View MoreI can't imagine how can people like this piece of garbage. So many good reviews about a movie in which all you hear is poop and potty???I heard a lot about this movie hence decided to watch it a few days back. I rarely in my life have ever stopped watching a movie in the middle and this was the movie I can't bare more then half and switched it off!!! All you can see or hear is about Amitabh Bachan's potty, how hard, how soft, how constipated he is, how much time he has spent in the bathroom trying to poop!! Disgusting!!! Can't imagine Amitabh such a dignified actor played this cheap character. Couple of times while watching the movie felt like puking, sick of listening the word poop!!!
... View MorePiku unpretentiously painted a portrait of an average upper middle class family. Amitabh Bachan acted as a retired father and widower who still enjoyed spending time with his daughter while battling health issues. Deepika Padukone's role as the daughter involved hilarious exchanges with her father and other employees of their family. Irrfan Khan's character managed ferrying Amitabh and Deepika in his taxi after being under fire from his mother and sister to do business. Shoojit Sircar delivered a truly simple yet effectual Bollywood film considering the lack of dance numbers and villains. Juhi Chaturvedi sprinkled this award winning hit with lively witticisms for plenty of laughs to accompany the distresses of reality.
... View MoreWhen Shoojit Sircar made Vicky Donor a few years back, I was simply baffled how a guy could make film on sperm donation without making it look sleazy or dirty. And when I saw the trailer of Piku and an old man complaining about constipation, I was wondering if Sircar and his writer, Juhi Chaturvedi who also wrote Vicky Donor get it right again. And, they do it with style !! Also, Juhi deserved the National Award. To be frank, I could see half the movie the 1st time and I watched the movie again a month later. Piku is very close to me because when it came I could see myself as Piku and in my home a bedridden grandma and an old mom wondering when all this suffering will end. The fights Amitabh and Deepika have were similar in my home as well as my grandma complaining of constipation every week and mom and me doing our best to help her out. When I watched it the first time, I laughed out loudly and was telling my friend that this is happening in my home. I watched Piku again a few days after my grandma died and I could understand the pain and loss when Amitabh's character dies for Piku. I could connect with the film again at that point. When I saw the cast of Amitabh and Irfan, both power house performers, I knew the film would be good. They share a brilliant rapport on screen and the scenes they have are outstanding. Amitabh, as the years are going by and without the weight of box office on him is outstanding and deserved the National Award for this role. He plays it which such perfection and the banter between him and Deepika is awesome and will you in splits.Irfan is as usual brilliant. Give him any role and he will shine. Again, like Amitabh, he doesn't have the box office weight to carry giving him more liberty to perform and excel. But for me the stand out performer is Deepika. I thought Deepika would be a wrong choice and after watching the film, I'm eating my words. She is a rock and shows that she is equally brilliant in front of these two stalwarts. The reason I could identify myself with Piku is because Deepika makes it so believable. She shows her love, anger, frustration and finally loss with such ease it left me speechless. Its a pity she didn't win the National Award but she lost to Kangana who was mind blowing in TWMR.A special mention to Moushumi Chatterjee who plays Piku's aunt. I wish I had an aunt like her.I also liked the writers showing the platonic friendship between Irfan and Deepika and not getting in the love angle.Piku is not an easy film to watch thanks to the subject of constipation and many of people will think it is rubbish. I would request that ignore the constipation and see the story and performances. You might change your mind.
