Before I go any further, For those who don't know, for some reason Broadway only casts women for the role of Peter Pan. I know it's baffling and dumb . At least when Cathy Rigby played the role in 2000 Cathy would throw her voice to sound like a little British boy so I'll give her credit for TRYING to fit the role. You can't say the same about Peter Pan Live. Allison Williams makes no attempt to hide her female voice and her acting, at least in this play, is meh at best. Thus, I don't see Peter Pan, the energetic, fun, adventurer. Next!Who ever thought that putting Christopher Walken as Hook needs to be punched in the throat. Throughout the whole play, he looks like he couldn't care less. And if the man playing Hook isn't invested in the slightest in his role as the main antagonist, then why should we care. Even if Allison Williams did do a good job in her role, she still wouldn't be saving anything with how bad Christopher Walken does. Hook has ALWAYS been an entertaining character with how fun, sneaky and menacing he was whenever he was on screen But not here, Next! The issues I have with Allison Williams play into how cringe worthy it was when they have Wendy wanting to kiss Peter Pan. Because Allison doesn't try to hide that she's a girl in a male role, All I'm thinking is that the creators want to tease the viewers with a lesbian kiss. On top of teasing the viewer with a "Wendy and Peter might get together" sub plot that should've been left up for the audience to interpret. Bleh! That was awful... Next. The only time I was invested was when Hooks pirates were on screen because they put effort into their acting. Tiger Lilly was empty and dull, the Lost Boys are casted as men (there is no excuse for this) And the ending fight with Peter vs Hook is just a boring as Christopher Walken himself. And now that I think about it, I don't know why I'm bringing this up so late but, if Christopher Walken could fit into anything with the boring and uninterested attitude of his, he should be in more M Night Shyamalan movies. Yeah, I said it and I'm not taking it back.

I run an entertainment review blog with a friend of mine, and for some reason, we have an obsession with watching the live NBC musicals to see how bad they can actually get. We watched Sound of Music, which is bad, but it was so hilariously bad that I would recommend you watching it. However, I can not do that for this.It was better. Far better than the Sound of Music. But, that made it unfunny. It was a massive waste of time. I have parts of my wall that I haven't stared at, and I would have rather done that. The set was cheap and awful. It was like looking at a primary school play with a set that the children made themselves. Especially Neverland. THEY HAD TO WRITE NEVERLAND ON THE FLOOR SO THE VIEWERS KNEW WHERE THEY WERE! Also, some of the set and camera work was truly awful. You could literally see the cables that were tied to everyone to make the illusion of flight. Also, I swear I saw a part of the roof in one of the scenes, and the lighting when Peter/Allison Williams got her shadow was SO BAD. You could still see her reflection on the floor! I mean, even the previously mentioned primary school play's lighting is better than that. And the audio. I could hear more fuzz then dialogue! Like, seriously! I thought someone was just controlling Christopher Walken with strings. His enthusiasm seemed about as high as me watching the thing. (But when he forgot his line, I cried with laughter. That was hilarious.) It may seem like I'm just saying technical issues that doesn't really matter to the regular viewer, but it is bad. I love the original movie, and I'm sure the stage play is just as amazing, but this makes me cringe. It makes me feel so bad about what this years The Wiz Live! will be and I just don't understand how they can keep making these.

We watched this with great expectation of a good to great show. How could it not be great? Christopher Walken as Hook. A live production! Christian Borle from SMASH. Kellie O'Hara. I was even interested in Allison Williams. But starting from the beginning it seemed as if it just didn't quite jell. "Peter Pan" didn't quite hit the mark when he shows up. Not bad. Just a bit too rushed or nervous sounding. The kids were fine, the mom and dad were fine. Then we get to Neverland, and "Hook" shows up. Or maybe, just walks on as if exerting energy in the part would be to go against the director's expressed wishes.I thought from the reviews that people were being unfair to Walken, but no, they were not unfair. Unfortunately, Walken pulled the whole show down. The pirates, for example, were campy and energetic and and clearly trying to have a good time. But Walken in the middle of them all? Scene after scene just sinks. It might be that he's tired, or that he doesn't care, or that he is just horribly miscast. Whatever the reason, he was completely wrong and spoiled the production. (Even the previews of the production show him as giving way less than 100% in rehearsal--which is disastrous for any production--a professional *must* be at 100% at *every* rehearsal and production.Other people were fine. I wasn't overly impressed with the choreography, but it was fine. The sets weren't distracting--it's a representation of a live show, and so the sets are larger than life like they would be for a Broadway show.I liked some of the new songs they inserted (one of them was from the 1954 production, if I understand correctly), and I thought the music was great--great production values. All in all, given anyone else as "Hook," this would have been a good-to-great production. Give a fantastic "Hook," it would have been fantastic. But with Walken, it was just a so-so production.Five stars. Good enough to maybe watch again with your kids or grandkids, but not something you'd watch again on your own.

I thought it was good not great but good. I thought Allison was a good pick for Peter Pan considered she's wanted to play the role since she was 3. I honestly would have picked Tim Curry or Jason Issacs to play Hook . Christopher Walken had no energy behind his interpretation of Hook. Sad really. The One thing I LOVED about Walken and Williams together was the duet "Duel" SO GOOD! The actress that played Mrs. Darling was also GREAT. My favorite version of the musical was Cathy Rigby's version. I have seen her twice live in 1997 and 2005, I have also seen Mary Martin and Sandy play Peter as well. I'd give Peter Pan Live! a 6/10. Allison was the best part of it honestly. I would see her on Tour if she goes on tour with it.
