WARNING, SPOILER ALERT!! Penny Dreadful really is dreadful. Basically you see Penny spend the whole movie trapped in a car endlessly cowering and crying, while some escaped lunatic tries to terrorize her from outside. The movie spends more time showing her losing her mind then it does showing anything else. After about 30 straight minutes of he panicking and whimpering, it just gets old. I found myself wishing the nut job would just finish her off already! The character was just plain annoying, the plot sucked, and the ending was lame. It took me 3 tries to finish this movie. I don't mind slow build up, but this just builds up to nothing but a waste of time.

Caught this one for the new 99-cent rentals that Blockbuster is hosting. Well worth that, if that means anything."Penny Dreadful" follows a girl named Penny (go figure) that, along with her therapist Orianna (Mimi Rogers) has gone on a trek to cure Penny's fears about being in a car and driving. The duo has agreed to drive across unspecified area until Penny is cured. Things are going well until Orianna accidentally hits an eery hitchhiker. He's fine, so to compensate Orianna offers to drop him off at a nearby campsite. She does so, only to find it abandoned. They drop off the hitchhiker only to eventually find that he has skewered one of their tires...and so the claustrophobia for Penny begins.It started out great, with a cameo by Michael Berryman and Mimi Rogers and Rachel Miner (Penny) putting in great performances. As time passes and Penny is forced to face her fears, having to stay in the car for safety, the usual clichés are used startlingly well and I realized I was in for a good indie horror flick. The cinematography of the wooded campsite was fun, the acting and effects were interesting, and until the end I loved it. Spoilers next so go on if you wish, keeping in mind that "Penny Dreadful" was fantastic until the end.My God, the end...I hated it. A great piece of indie horror didn't deserve the (SPOILERS) "escaped mental patient" effect. The whole time I kept thinking "What an ending it would be if Penny was actually doing the whole thing to herself to combat her fears!" But no. I was severely disappointed, and as a result we go from a perfect ten to a six. Sorry Penny, drive safe.

Penny,a young woman traumatized by a childhood auto accident that killed her parents,accompanies her therapist on a road trip back to the scene of the accident as part of her therapy to overcome her fear of cars.But when the two women accidentally cross paths with a dark and mysterious Hitch Hiker on a lonely stretch of mountain highway an attempt at healing suddenly takes a terrifying detour into a horrific life-and-death struggle with a ruthless,deranged killer bent on preying upon Penny's worst fears."Penny Dreadful" is an unremarkable slasher with tons of quick cuts masquerading as scares.The acting is solid and it's always nice to see Michael Berryman in a small cameo,unfortunately the killings are laughable and there is not much blood and gore.Still "Penny Dreadful" is better than Richard Brandes horrible vampire flick "Out for Blood".5 out of 10.

But what it is is an amazingly brilliant psychological thriller , Penny dreadful is a well made and well acted horror film that will satisfy any horror lovers urge for a good time. After surviving a horrible automobile accident that killed both her parents Penny Dearborn has an unstable and perpetual fear of cars, her therapists suggest that they confront her fear head on. So they take a road trip to cure Penny's fear, but it has dangerous and disastrous results when they pick up a psychotic hitchhiker. Penny Dreadful is a dark and gritty psychological thriller that takes you into the mind and soul of a frightened and traumatized young girl and her fight to say alive. This film explore three main themes, 1. terror and what it can do to you if you let it control you. 2: What certain events in your life can do to change who you are and what you are. 3: What the darkness of a quiet woods can do to turn your worst fears into a reality. Penny Dreadful is a psychological thriller that is right up there with the best and will continue to shock and scare you for a long time to come.
