Real murder mystery like the old school movies. Brialliant acting and certainly somewhat funny also. The manager of a nursing home Bettina Eriksen's (Helle Virkner) uncle is murdered. She discover the murder is from the same nursing home. And the the plot begins, with the two old women Emma and Johanne (Maria Garland & Else-Marie) One of them a miss Marvel like woman, sharp and calculating, who finally solves the murder case. All this they must do while acting like nothing where happened. Some very funny scenes, like and old terminally sick man who spread his evil on the young nurses. Two fanatic chess players who does nothing else than play chess.

Gys og gæve tanter, I think, is a very intelligent film. The aunts form the most unbelievable pair of detectives in trying to solve the mystery of the film. But what makes this film so incredible besides the fantastic plot is the artistic use of pictures that helps emphasize the ghastliness of the entire story. The acting is very good too, only the making-up could be better, it is inconsistent with the story.
