This 1980 horror film stars Michael Cutt, Melanie Graham and Shane Dixon. Cutt plays college professor, Bill Nugent who has just survived a terrible ordeal. He tells his story to doctors about a Bigfoot (Dixon) that attacked him and his students in the wilderness. He also reveals there was a woman, Wanda McGinty (Graham) who was raped by the monster and had it's baby that her father killed after. This is like a bad student film about Bigfoot that I only give points for it's nice surroundings and bloody effects. The monster isn't scary, there's lousy acting and the film should've had a different title. I only recommend this if you're into cheesy horror or creature features.

Wasson's Night of the Demon (not to be confused with the 1957 Jacques Tourneur "classic" of the same name), is undoubtedly one of those films that would have been lost into the ether of forgotten trash, had it not been for moral crusaders involved in the ludicrous video nasty furore in the early 1980's. Of course, the likes of Mary Whitehouses' lobbying group, 'The Festival of Light' - along with MP Graham Bright, - would have only seen the "nasty" and gruesome shots from the accused films. Seeing a series of gore scenes from 79 films would surely grate on anyone (even someone who likes gore movies), and reading these outside of the context of the narrative fundamentally alters its meaning. In this low budget gore film, there are some significantly gruesome dismemberment and bloodletting - in one scene a motorcyclist has his penis ripped off whilst taking a leak at the roadside.Night of the Demon is practically a slasher film (prevalent in the horror market at the time), in its approach of the infamous myth of the Bigfoot - or Sasquatch. Professor Nugent (Michael Cutt) takes a group of students to the wild wilderness of America, in search of the beast, who is suspected of being the culprit in some gruesome deaths. The films use of the flashback device is a simple technique used to fit as many kills in as possible. Nugent orates the history of the horrific deaths; each 3 to 6 minutes previous events are show in detail. Interviewing a local eccentric, they are guided towards a mysterious hermit woman, affectionately known as Crazy Wanda (Melanie Graham), and the myth of Sasquatch takes on a satanic edge, involving sexualised rituals, and offering of virgins. It's a bizarre inclusion to the narrative, but one that does eventually bring some obvious, silly, but semi-interesting ramifications - a kind of explicitly fantastical stereotyping of the redneck American "outback" of films like The Texas Chain-Saw Massacre (1974), or The Hills Have Eyes (1977).Whilst overall the film is substantially awful, there are some technically accomplished - or at least effective - sequences. In the opening a man has his arm ripped off by the monster, the camera zooms onto the stump at the shoulder, the blood pours out, and as the title, Night of the Demon, emblazons the screen, the blood has filled a foot print in the mud of Bigfoot. It's an incredibly simple, but effective idea. Later a pair of girl guides are attacked, the beast bangs the girls together, as they stab each other with the knives in their hands. This incredible scene has the editing spirit of the shower scene from psycho, and cuts in some very gut churning shots of knife penetration.Night of the Demon does have a few accomplished moments, but the film is generally a very haphazard production, with lamentable narrative drag, and incompetent performances (but it's preposterous to even criticise acting abilities in films like this). Of course, as you would expect also, from low budget horror, the monster - man in a suit - is stupid, looking like Chewbacca with a shaved face and an afro, and they save that beautiful reveal (sic) for the climax of the film. With all these bad elements, I have to say that it is not the worst of its kind. Night of the Demon offers some unintentional laughs, and possibly even some intentioned. Taking the gore scenes out of context would lead to some questioning of the film - some of the special effects are very well done for such a minuscule budget - but it is possibly far too amateurish to be absolutely convincing, but would certainly not damage the mind of any spectator.www.the-wrath-of-blog.blogspot.com

View MoreA few years ago my mother had bought me a DVD called Night of the Demon out of the 5 dollar bin, she knew my love of horror films and thought that the cover looked cool and that I would probably like it. Weird thing is, I never checked it out until recently, years and years this DVD sat on my shelf and I don't know why I didn't check it out earlier. Because when I went onto IMDb for reviews and then onto Amazon, I couldn't believe my eyes, this same DVD that my mom bought for 5 dollars is now selling for 80 dollars on Amazon, isn't that crazy? So my mother picked a true treasure I was guessing. Well, after viewing it, I'm not so sure that treasure is the right name any more, but it certainly has something. I'm an gore fan, I have to admit, the story could be lousy but if there is good gore in the film, I just end up falling for it. Night of the Demon does that for me, while the story, acting and directing isn't up to par, this is a fun movie with the killing scenes. I know that sounds sick, but this is a fun treasure from the 80's with the great senseless nudity, sex, drugs, drinking, stereotypes and violence that I could want.Night of the Demon tells the story of an anthropology class's all-too-successful expedition into the American wilderness to find the truth behind the Sasquatch legend. Along the way, the team learn about the creature's previous victims, uncover the squalid story of a hermit who gave birth to a mutation after being raped by the monster, and finally come face to face with the beast himself.Eighty dollars worth of your time; no, not really, but if you're able to still find it cheap and are a horror fan like I am, I totally recommend this film. This is a crazy monster we have in the film, we go from this light hearted music that sounds like it belongs in an elevator to seeing Big Foot rip a guys hot dog off! You know what I mean, I can't write it on this website. Also this poor girl is getting beaten by her hick father after he suspects her feelings for another man, literally thrashing a belt on her back, now in most horror movies, the dad would be the one put to justice, but it's the girl that gets raped by Big Foot and gives birth to his baby! Now that's a Jerry Springer episode that I would love to see! The whole ending is in slow motion with the sickest kills you will ever see, Saw would cover it's eyes to some of these gruesome kills. It's a very strange film, believe me, it's not for everyone. The direction is a little off and the lighting is absolutely horrible at times, however the reason I forgave this so fast is due to the fact that it seems like the cast and crew genuinely had a great time making this film. I mean there's a scene where Big Foot takes two girl scouts who happen to be carrying knives and pulls their arms towards each other stabbing each other while the whole time you're screaming "Just drop the knife! Problem solved!". But it's moments like that that make me enjoy a movie when you're just having a good time with it. This may be a twisted Big Foot, but that's just the way we are supposed to suspect him to be, why are we so afraid of him? Just like Jaws made people afraid of sharks, Night of the Demon will make you afraid of Big Foot! But like I said, don't buy it for 80 dollars, I'm sure you can find it cheaper somewhere else or it's gotta be on the net, because people are greedy and crazy.6/10

It became most famous for its depictions of castration, dismemberment, stabbings and disemboweling. The description tells you this is a gory version of Bigfoot. What it doesn't tell you is how funny it can be. In the second attack, two people are going at it in their van in the woods when Bigfoot pulls the man out of the van and bloodies him up. The girl (Jennifer West) is all naked and screaming at the sight of her bloodied lover. I swear her screams sounded like she was having an orgasm.Bigfoot grabs another camper, still in his sleeping bag, and twirls him round and round before throwing him into a tree with a broken branch. You might want to watch where you whip it out to relieve yourself. You never know what's in the bushes, and you might lose some valuable equipment. They find Crazy Wanda (Melanie Graham), who was raped by Bigfoot, and had it's baby. Of course Bigfoot came by and the real carnage began.Picture is fuzzy most of the time, and the acting is not that great. Music is irritating, but there is a lot of blood for the nasty fans.
