Night Moves is a rather slow paced and unsettling drama. There are most certainly an audience for these type of films, but Night Moves doesn't provide much excitement, thrills or suspense of any kind. Some have described this film as a thriller but one can't seem to relate. Much what occurs in the film is quite slow and at times boring to watch. We are watching to see the characters develop and some tension but mostly what we receive are long pauses of silence, wide shots of the outdoors and small talk dialogue. One positive is the actors and the authentic feel of the film. The cast do ensure they are seemingly portraying as 'real characters'. From the clothing, atmosphere and overall tone, this film has an authentic and real aspect about it. Understanding there are Eco environmentalist people in reality like the actors portrayed in the film.Overall, Night Moves is perhaps more suited and preferred for people specifically in this type of genre. Those who enjoy slower paced character driven dramas about earth, landfills and the environment. Because there is no action or thrills in this film.

Three eco-terrorists plot to explode a hydroelectric dam that is adversely affecting the local fish, but carrying on afterwards as if nothing has happened proves impossible for the trio in this deliberately paced thriller. The film does not exactly explore any new or original ideas; living with the guilt of one's criminal actions is an especially common running theme in Woody's filmography and the basic plot of 'Night Moves' is near identical to 'Cassandra's Dream' - but this nevertheless remains an encapsulating experience with the slow pacing an unexpected asset. Some of the best scenes have Jesse Eisenberg simply sitting around and waiting in the aftermath of the eco-terrorism act; his friends and family carry on their daily routines behind him while he poignantly stares into the distance, almost in disbelief at the fact that nobody is coming to lock him up for his crime. Dakota Fanning is equally effective as the token member of the trio who becomes sick with guilt, however, she could have benefited from more screen time. The film may have also fared better with a less open-ended conclusion; as it is, it ends on a note so abrupt that it is absolutely jarring. Generally speaking though, this is a nifty motion picture about impulsive idealists gradually coming to second-think their passionate stances when it is tragically too late to turn back. Jeff Grace graces the film with a perfectly haunting eerie music score and as one might expect from a film with the word 'Night' in the title, all the low-lighting nighttime shots are amazingly atmospheric.

If you want to see a thriller, don't watch this movie. Longest 2 hours of my life. Taking 2 minutes for a shot that should last 10 seconds doesn't make it art. It makes it boring, as hell. You don't feel any sympathy for the characters. You only think please let them die and get this movie over with. But no, that wouldn't be pretentious enough I guess... I have read some positive reviews, are you guys sadist? You are fooling people into thinking this movie is in some way worth viewing. This is not a thriller. If it was a drama than okay you could give it some points, there are some people that like this kind of movie. But for a thriller, no. This is no thriller

(Spoilers). Sat down to watch this semi-dud, "Night Moves" is a plodder and tries to work as a psychological suspense movie. The problem though is there's little to no actual action, not to mention the dialog interest-level in the characters is poor. Perhaps worse than this is the glaring use of non-resolution in the end where we have nothing wrapped up, but even more questions than when the movie began. Some of the earlier scenes were decent leading up to the eco-terrorism, but passed that the last third of the movie dragged awfully. The acting was so-so as was the direction. The cinematography was satisfactory, and dialog OK but uneventful, and certainly not provocative. Not Recommended (5/10)
