If I could give this awful movie a zero; I would. This is probably one of the most pretentious films I have ever seen - second to your average Zack Snyder film. Not only does this movie have so many still frames - this movie makes it seem like it has more content than what it advertises by the 2.5 hour showing time. I spent about half this movie waiting for something to happen and nothing did. I am currently watching the film as I type this and I made an account on IMDb just to give it a bad review. I was disturbed by awful sounds and grunts and I returned to the film showing off how strong their actors and actresses are by giving each other piggy-back rides. What is this movie exactly? According to a friend, it doesn't even follow the source material; just like DC films. 0/10 would not want to watch again.
... View MoreAs someone before me said,Iku and Yori's love was doomed from the start (twincest = no longer okay. Although once upon a time people used to force twins to marry). It's always very sad to not be able to return to a happier time; to be forced to move on.In the beginning,I wondered if it was lust just from how suddenly Yori's emotional damn broke, but I was quickly corrected by watching all the tense interactions. There's a lot of subtlety in this movie, if you're the type of person who doesn't pick up on it,you won't understand this at all.It is very slow in that there are many awkward pauses;several times I wanted to yell "Say something!Anything!" but that's how life is, isn't it? Full of awkward moments when no one knows what to say? Initially, when the movie ended, my response was "that's it?", but when I thought about it,that way made the most sense -- a quiet death to their relationship because if they grieve strongly, they wont be able to handle living 'so close, yet so far'. My only remaining queries are if the mother actually realized the situation and if Yori or Iku regretted their romance for the heartbreak/pain it caused them. Jun Matsumoto continually impresses me with his acting, and I say this as a movie connoisseur because Arashi really isn't my thing.
... View MoreThis page is about the anime not the live-action movie.(SPOILERS)Anywho, as for my thoughts on the show. It was just borderline for me. The story starts off with two twins playing in a park and the boy, Yori, tells his parents that one day he was going to marry his twin sister, Iku. Of course the parents laugh at it thinking it was a joke. We are then fast-forwarded to the present where 16 yr. old Yori finds himself romantically in love with his Iku. Then we find out that Yori is transferring to a school in another prefecture (basically a Japanese version of a U.S. state. Then the drama begins (cue lonely inner monologue with sad Incredible Hulk-like piano). The animation, although somewhat generic, is beautiful to look at and the first few minutes set you up for what looks like great story of the inner turmoil of a boy who is just now discovering love only to find out that it's his sister. But sadly that ends in about ten minutes as the main character makes out with his sister and finds out she has the same feelings. This anime fails because of the fact that the two leads despite being made for each other (quite literally considering not only are they twins but they are also the product of someone's imagination) seem to lack a certain mutual attraction. (personally I blame the script) But it seems as though Yori is forcing the emotionally immature Iku to love him the he wants. I mean in the scene where she tells him that she is interested in a serious relationship with a boy. Then after they argue he jumps in her bed while, she is still feeling betrayed he kisses her. Not only that but throughout the whole time Yori is making the first move. (save for once but I'll get to that later)When they do have their intimate moments and you're like "Finally they can be together." they continue to pound the fact that they're twins into your mind. I know it sounds a little immature but you just can't convince me that this is alright. On top of that Yori is a total dick because it seems that not only is he playing on the emotions of his sister he is playing her best friend and driving a wedge between those two. Making his sister even more alone and emotionally vulnerable. Like when Iku finds out that Yori had sex with Tomoko (her best friend) Iku starts to feel unimportant and wants to have sex with Yori at the same spot. But above all else he leaves at the end!!! Where he even admits that even though he told Iku not to cry, she will. Not only that but he leaves Tomoko a wreck (he probably took her virginity) now God only knows what she's going to tell people at school. Also, who knows if her and Iku can ever be friends again. Also it appears Yori's best friend Yano also doesn't approve of his relationship.I'll admit even though this may seem like a negative review it's not. My Sister, My Love leaves you wanting more as opposed to feeling unsatisfied. I would like to know more about Yano and his past and future with Iku (when Yori questions Iku about boys she likes he indicates they she had a crush on his friend Yano) Also Iku's having to adjust w/o Yori in the picture as well as her trying to path things up with Tomoko. And despite his acting like a jerk I would like to see Yori's future exploits. Rather than being a single episode OVA I say My Sister, My Love makes more sense as a series' pilot.
... View MoreThere is an old Japanese saying: 「終わり良ければ全て良し」"As long as the ending is good, it's all good"... They were talking about this movie. This movie is about a pair of twins who loves each other finally starts acting on it. The first 1:30 of this movie was incredibly slow. Of course, this is very typical of many Japanese films, but it was extremely difficult to watch because all the characters seemed emotionless and it felt as if they were reading lines off a big board behind the camera. I was about to give this film a mediocre rating like 3/10 at this point, then the last scene started... The long shot starting with rock/paper/scissors in the last scene is probably the most amazing shot I've ever seen in Japanese movie or drama so far. All the monotonous dialogs, long silences, emotionless acting were buildups for this very last scene, where the emotion finally erupts. I've never been a believer in Matsumoto Jun's acting skills, but I've been proved wrong in the very last 10 minutes. The ending was very deep, as the two main characters, without words exchanged, realize their relationship will never reach anywhere, and 10 the last steps were taken, lass kiss was exchanged.Although some of the character's actions didn't make sense early in the movie, I enjoyed it a lot thanks to the great ending and the cuteness of Eikura Nana.Recommended for patient MatsuJun or Eikura Nana fans.
