Must Love Dogs (2005) is one of the funniest romantic comedies I have ever seen. Every member of the cast fits their role so well. Diane Lane played the lead role very well, she brought kind of an innocent but also very fun vibe to her character. John Cusack was good playing Lane's romantic interest, and they had fairly good on screen romantic chemistry. Like I said, Cusack is good, but honestly this is Lane's film, she shines the most and most of the movie centers around her story and her characters deep inner struggles, and I liked it that way. Also in the cast, is one of my favorites, you may know her from Big (1988), Elizabeth Perkins. She plays Lane's sister here and she is just hilarious in this film, I laughed at her character every time she came on the screen, and that was so refreshing, because a lot of romantic comedies only focus on being sweet and forget that it's a romantic COMEDY, some parts are actually supposed to be humorous. This movie really understands that and it delivers. This movie has many very funny scenes with good characters, it's well written, and it also has that sweet/cute factor. Overall, it's a pretty lite movie, and it's also very enjoyable. I really recommend Must Love Dogs if you're looking for a worthwhile romantic comedy. 8/10.

Just discovered this film and its in my favourites especially for those rainy evenings. Its full of wonderful actors and the writing contrary to some other reviews is witty and charming and so relevant- if you have ever internet dated this captures most of how wrong it could go. The delicious Christopher Plummer still with a twinkle in his eye, reciting Keats is masterful. The FAB Stockard Channing as an ageing internet dater is wonderful - Diane Ladd and John Cusack should be together always - what great actors- John Cuscack is John Cusack thankfully in this film - his lines are funny and great. I loved it ! Diane Ladd is such a wonderful actress and is just right in this film - I don't think I have ever seen her in a comedy. I honestly thought the writing was great and witty and fun ! A feelgood film. ( Oh and the dogs are great!)

Sarah Nolan (Diane Lane) is recently divorced and is throwing in the towel. Her family just can't help getting involved in her personal life, or lack there of. After her sister puts her profile on PerfectMatch.com, this preschool teacher goes on a number of outrageous and hilarious dates. Bob (Dermot Mulroney) is the father of one of her students. Jake (John Cusack) is looking for true love. This is very much a by-the-numbers rom-com. There is nothing terrible about this movie. I like all the actors, and they are all lovely. Diane Lane is a dressed-down cutie. Both guys are likable. I do wish she picked one guy quicker.

I really, really hate this movie. I'm gonna have to disagree with the previous poster--I found this movie totally offensive. From the women obsessed with their father's love life to the schlubby, unattractive man scoring a relationship with a woman way too good for him to the constant references to Diane Lane's questionable and certainly significantly less than extraordinary beauty, this movie bit.Not in a good way.Romantic comedies excel when they manage to be incisive and revealing of various societal truths and intimate and this one was simply not.No one behaves like this in real life, and for good reason. Shame on you, lawyer-dude whose name I cannot be bothered to look up on IMDb right now. You are far better than this film.
