If you are looking for a heartwarming, feel good comedy, this is the movie for you. It is a simple story but the best stories are the ones that have been done again and again but in different ways. This movie is full of laughs and has plenty of heart. It is very relatable, no matter what age you are. (though I would imagine young children would find this movie incredibly boring) The acting is terrific and the characters are all very lovable. I found John Cusack's character to be particularly charming and I definitely would have given him chance after chance! The one thing I found a little questionable was John Cusack's profession. Seemed a little odd and unbelievable that he could even make his rent/alimony payments if he wasn't making any money with his boats. But maybe it goes without saying that he had another source of income? Overall, this movie was very uplifting and is sure to give those who are feeling down some much needed hope.P.S. Is there a movie out there where Dermot Mulroney DOESN'T play the jerk? LOL I have yet to find one...

It's a tale old as time, lonely people searching for love, burned before, but only a singe, not a char. Diane Lane and John Cusack are divorcees who just happen to find each other in the park after he's seen her picture on a singles website. It isn't sparky at first sight, but as these films always go, top billed actors end up together whether they want to or not. So what you end up with is a nice date film, or more recently (and crudely) referred to as a "chick flick". This is the type of film that brings in smiles, first (and possibly last) dates, and yet ends up forgotten by the end of the night. In the case of this one, it's at least responsibly mature, and fortunately, not obnoxious like newer versions of the same old story. Yes, it's filled with clichés, some pathetic, others amusing. It really scores mainly because of the likability of the leads, practically too likable to be believable. If this serves any purpose, it is to indicate why people remain single in this modern age, either just really creepy beyond belief, too neurotic or self centered to even want to lightly socialize with.Christopher Plummer is total sophistication and elegance as Lane's father, whom Lane accidentally sets up a singles date with. He's not as tough to match, finding late middle aged romance with the somewhat bohemian Stockard Channing. Funny that the older characters have a more youthful and welcoming presence than the younger characters. They add the fizz to the champagne that would have gone flat had the vintage not been aged.

A lovely family-like movie about having to pick oneself up after a divorce with a certain amount of large family nosiness that makes it predictable at first I enjoyed the opening scene that sets the pace. She is at the mercy of her family and friends. They love her, they hate the fact that she is lonely. They insist she try harder not to be sad and look ahead. The first two-thirds of the movie has fun moments, elegant explanations, snappy and witty back and forth dialog, but the situation is rather painful. The screenplay was slow at first. Things got better. Excellent cast! Must Love Dogs has enjoyable, witty moments, interesting developed characters, in funny situations strung into a cute story that needs more grounding somehow. It is not the best movie you are gonna ever see and definitely not the worst.

I 'm a guy and I m not into rom coms but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Turns out IMDb users have rated it with 5.9. I 've decided that neither public opinion nor the critics are a good way to gauge a film, both are incredibly misguided, they don't have the appropriate intelligence, emotiveness, taste or flair. (!! HECK EVEN THE INBUILT IMDb DICTIONARY DOESN'T EVEN RECOGNISE THE WORD EMOTIVENESS AND THEY MARK IT IN THE PREVIEW AS A MISTAKE...they suggest that it be replaced with abortiveness, how about that for poetic irony) This might a bit on the harsh side but honesty has that tendency. Only a a friend whose taste you trust can really recommend a film. Anyway, I digressed enough. This is a sensitive, very well plotted and very funny film. I wasn't expecting this and I very positively surprised. First of all all the actors here give fantastic, even John Cussack who I thought had only been doing phone ins lately.Diane Lane, well what can you say about Ms. Lane, she's such a treat, such a dependable actress. Here she lets off her guard and delivers a very difficult performance (that of a woman growing older, being neurotic, being needy) in such a splendid way. She's so appealing here being so vulnerable. I thought no one could hold a candle to Diane Keaton in these types of roles but Lane here is a more mature Annie Hall for the 2000s. Actually the film is very Woody Allen-y in a lot of ways. The sublime Stockard Channing gives a fine performance too (what a fantastic comedienne, she could make watching paint dry entertaining, one of the truly great actors on the screen these days.), and so does Elizabeth Perkins, and the old master Christopher Plummer. But all the other characters are so well acted too. Absolutely fantastic casting here. Kudos for the direction here and of course the writing, there are some minor lines that gave me belly laughs. Most of them subtle and understated of course like much of this film. It seems unless you paint with these awful broad dramatic or comedic strokes people don't get it. And why would they. And what lovely dogs too!!A real unexpected treat this film, a fun, sensitive, silly and honest romantic comedy.
