Spook perv happenings in a (dense) fog shrouded mansion? We're in giallo territory, right? Rich heiress Elsa is on her way to some town to meet her lawyer and sign some documents regarding something or other when she ends up in dense fog and crashes her car. Also caught in the dense fog is our hero and a hitchhiker who have had a run in with perv Franco Fantasia (who, in the dense fog, crashes his car into the lawyer's), and have also nearly been run over (in dense fog) by a creepy chauffeur driving (in dense fog) a Rolls Royce (in dense fog). Elsa also has a run in with this chauffeur and another mysterious figure (in dense fog but also in a cemetery) before hooking up with our hero and heading for a creepy mansion (in dense fog), where they meet everyone else. The mansion is surrounded by dense fog for the duration of the film. This mansion is owned by a creepy woman who invites them to stay but also explains that the previous owner, her aunt or something, died in a car crash whilst being driven by her chauffeur (in dense fog? I'm not sure if she mentions fog) and that there was vampires and such like. Which is a sure fine way to have your guests settle down for the night, not that it seems to bother our hero and the hitchhiker, who have sex right there in the living room while Franco watches from the shadows, hitting the hooch and being all jealous and that (he'd previously tried to put the moves on the hitchhiker at the start of the film). Before you know it the zombie chauffeur is turning up in people's rooms, even scaring one of them to death, the owner of the house starts putting the Sapphic moves on Elsa (this being a Spanish/Italian film, after all). There's a secret passage in the cellar and dead bodies, crypts and such like. This reminded me an awful lot of Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye, which also had a secret passageway leading to a crypt. It also reminded me of Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye because both copies are blurry as hell and hard to make out. A mysterious figure also turns up at some point later in the film and many twists and turns are introduced. This guy has the hat and the gloves of your usual giallo villain, so you can be sure he's not there to check the gas meter. That said, it's fairly easy to figure out what's going on, and mio Dio does this film like to take it's time! After having a long, long set up, you're already for the murders to start happening, when instead we get a lengthy flashback sequence. However, unlike a lot of films where not a whole lot goes on, this is an Italian/Spanish production so there's heaps of stylish camera-work and lush visuals and groovy music. No nudity and very little gore, but a nice atmosphere and even a couple of scares thrown in.To summarise: If you have to see every giallo ever made, don't put this one too high on your list. Low on the usual giallo things (boobs, blood) but high on style, atmosphere, and dense fog.

After watching this movie, I kind of find it hard to believe that two American distributors apparently thought well enough of it to release it twice to American audiences. Before I get any further, I feel I should say that this really isn't a BAD movie, just a kind of disappointing one. There is some genuine merit to be found in the movie. Though low budget, it spends its limited funds wisely. It is also often lit and photographed in ways that add some genuine atmosphere. Unfortunately, the movie is saddled with an inadequate screenplay. True, it adds some twists near the end, but before then the movie is very slow-moving and downright boring at times. For example, the body count in the first hour of the movie is a mere ONE person. If the story had been more fast moving and more eventful, we might have had something here. But as it is, while it isn't really a bad movie, it is disappointing.

A group of people are getting lost in the fog and they end up in a creepy looking Murder Mansion where 'zombies' of chauffeur and his ghostly madame roam during the night in the search of their prey.Who is behind the mystery of Murder Mansion?Pretty tame and non-exploitative Gothic Spanish/Italian co-production.The film lacks blood and nudity and this is quite surprising. There are some subtle lesbian overtones, but no lesbian sex.The climax in which two main characters Frank & Laura expose the odd scheme is slightly disappointing, though.Still if you are into groovy 70's Eurohorror you have to check this Gothic chiller with Scooby Doo plot.7 foggy mansions out of 10.

Unusual and likable Spanish/Italian co-production that plays something like a seventies Spanish, Old Dark House with giallo elements. Split more or less into three parts, the beginning takes place on the road, the middle introduces us to all the varied peoples holed up in the mansion in the fog and the final 25minutes are pretty wild action all the way. In truth there is nothing particularly violent or sexual but all the ladies are lovely, we really don't know what's going on any more than they do and we care enough to stick with it to find out. Worth it? Yes, I reckon so, it's just that little bit different and even the 'posh' English dubbing seems to help the strangeness that permeates the whole film.
