Mount Tamalpais R.R., No. 1 (1898) This here was the first of three films from Edison shot at the Tamalpais Tavern resort just north of San Francisco. This first film was shot from a passenger cart that was placed in front of a train. We see the train take off and then the camera goes to the right overlooking a large cliff before turning back around to face the camera where the film then ends. There's certainly nothing ground-breaking about this film but history buffs should at least find it entertaining as well as those wanting to see what a train from 1898 actually looked like. As is normally the case with these early movies, they're basically just showing people something they couldn't see in their normal life as travel wasn't as easy as it was today. With that in mind I'm sure people got a kick out of this and even when viewing it today you've got to be impressed with the cinematography.
