I'm not usually much one for drama films, but this one really surprised me with it's creativity and characters.Very emotional, full of ups and downs. This movie makes me laugh and cry... every time :) 10/10I also feel this movie is full of hidden messages and metaphors. Gackt himself has said that the story in this film ties into the stories he tells through his music and works (the Crescent, moon, mars, diabolos) albums tie together with this movie which was also written by Gackt. The ending song in this movie is totally worth it. Sure it may not be the 11 minute long duet, but it still fits quite nicely into the film and the idea portrayed. "Orenji No taiyo " The orange sun.

Moonchild surprised me. Not ever having heard of Hyde of Gackt I was not expecting much. The reason I wanted to watch it was because somebody mentioned that it contained some serious action scenes in John Woo style. Normally I am very careful when this is claimed. There is only one John Woo and till this day there hasn't been one director that comes close to his brilliance when it comes to action. The fact that "Moon Child" would feature a vampire convinced me even more. How can you go wrong with gun blazing vampires. Sounds promising and interesting. The first thing I noticed about this film that the pace was considerably slow. It takes it's time to set the mood.In contrast to that you have some nice Hong Kong style action scenes!Giving the impression that this is a full out action movie. But it's not.The core is a drama about friendship and loyalty. The focus is on the characters and their relation to each other. The pop singers Hyde and Gackt do a good job in acting and are very believable as friends. The only problem I had was with the plot. A couple of times they skipped a few years without explaining what happened and why they had to skip. Example:When one member of the gang dies (very dramatic moment) Alexander Wang sees Kei (Hyde) drinking blood of one of the attackers. Without warning and explanation the movie skips 9 nine years and most of the friends aren't together any more. Also without a proper reason given Son (Alexander Wang) and Sho (Gackt) apparently have become mortal enemies and want to kill each other each time they get the chance to. I know that this is done to add some serious drama. Because of the actors it is very effective but sometimes it felt forced. Apart from the flaws in plot there is an ambiance and slickness that makes it hard not to like Moonchild. It is hard to explain why I thought Moonchild is wonderful. But it just is. The overall experience you get is heart warming and sincere!

...would probably be the best word to describe this film (in my opinion). besides one great heck of a fan service for fan girls (well, that was redundant~), it was the story that blew me away. hurray for Takahisa Zeze and Gackt! and i know some people will disagree with me on this one, but it wasn't any of the big three actors (the guys that played Sho, son, and Kei) that gave the best performance (for me, anyway). it was Taro Yamamoto, boy #5 from battle Royale! don't get me wrong, i like Hyde, i worship his voice, but the problem was that some of his scenes came a little bit 'off', but i loved that scene where he danced with the dead guy's body killing the other guys. and Gackt wasn't at all that bad too, i preferred how his character was kind of aloof from the start. nothing much i can say about my background on lee-Hom Wang, i won't pretend to know him, but he carried his own weight with the star-studded cast. this movie paved the way for one of the best collaborations I've ever heard, Orenji No Taiyou (forgive my spelling if it's wrong). while the complete song lasts about nine minutes, you wouldn't notice the length because you'd be enjoying hearing Gackt and Hyde together. anyway, this movie is a must-see not only for the fans (huge fan base~) but for those who enjoy sci-fi, futuristic movies, Asian-style.

Perfect gunfights, perfect script, a little humor, excellent characters, Gackt, Hyde, etc... How could that failed? No way it could. The cinematography is absolutely brilliant in every way; from the epic gunfights to the depiction of that Asian-type City of God, Moon Child never let down the viewer for one minute. The dialog is perfect and you can really "feel" the emotions of the characters and all the things that they've gone through. This film accomplishes something that only a few director can do; mix vampires, gangsters, vampires, social message and masterful combat choreography all in one and make a masterpiece with it. A flawless film even though the principal characters are amateur and were singers before starting to act. Gackt depicts the perfect yakuza and no one could've best depicted the character of Sho in my opinion. The combat scenes are totally stunning and they keep your attention during the whole thing (Special Mention to the first gunfight and the final assault at the end). And, by the way, don't believe people who are saying things like: This movie discuss homosexuality or/and is homo-erotic because it's not true. It's mainly centered around the everyday life of orphans and their struggle to survive in a near-anarchy society.Moon Child is an experience that I will never forget.
