Character Design - When I saw this movie in theaters as a young child I thought that this was supposed to be a horror movie. Rewatching this more recently, I can see why. The look of these characters is absolutely hideous.Tone - This movie isn't funny. When I rewatched it, I couldn't get any laughs except out of how stupid it is. None of the jokes are even remotely funny. This movie is extremely cringeworthy. A child watching this thing is either going to get scared or bored. Plot - I actually like this concept. Too bad its executed so badly. The voice acting, and the animation are bad. Steven Colbert seemed to be putting in an effort, but even he couldn't work with the terrible script.Product Placement - The first 3 minutes are basically a concentrated dose of product placement. Instead of just spreading it out throughout the movie in the backgrounds, they just lazily threw it all into the first few minutes. I'm not against product placement, movies need to be funded, but the way its presented in this movie is annoying and obvious. This scene doesn't even really have much to do with the rest of the movie. Its just a short scene with characters we never see again lazily introducing the plot. This whole scene could've been cut and it would've barely affected the movie. There isn't that much to say about this movie. The animation is bad, the sound design is bad, the script is bad - there's barely any enjoyment to be had here. No I do not recommend this nonsense.

Catching up on them during the Christmas holiday,I found DreamWorks non-franchise films to have a unique, quirky atmosphere. Finding it to surprisingly not be shown on TV during X-Mas,I was happy to recently spot the movie being shown, which led to me seeing the Monsters Vs. Aliens fight. The plot:Just before she is to get married Susan Murphy gets hit by a meteorite. Surviving the hit,Murphy starts growing to 50ft high. Rushing to stop more of the public from seeing her,the military knocks Murphy out. Waking up,Murphy finds herself locked in a secret government facility with Dr. Cockroach P.H.D., B.O.B. and Missing Link, who tell Murphy about the battle between Aliens and Monsters.View on the film:Flying over the 50's Creature Feature Sci-Fi era,co-writers/(with Maya Forbes/Wallace Wolodarsky/Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger) directors Rob Letterman (who moved to live action with Goosebumps) and Conrad Vernon pay loving tribute to the era with bold characters whose primary-coloured,big eyes design helping the bright blue and green monsters slither into action. Landing on an unexpectedly quiet note for the final, the directors land the fight scenes with a mighty crunch, thanks to a sharp eye for scale allowing the viewer to follow the monsters stomp round the peaceful cities. Filling the alien spaceships with lively performances from Seth Rogen and Hugh Laurie in a tantalising playground, the writers disappointingly stay away from picking up everything that the setting offer, due to the focus on Murphy leading to the other monsters and aliens feeling oddly normal,in a battle that is far from being the war of the worlds.

This may not be an all-time animated classic like Bambi or Secret of Nymh, but it's good for passing the time for an hour and a half, which is all I'm sure it was setting out to do. The lead, voiced by Reese Witherspoon, is sympathetic enough to keep us invested in the story. The supporting cast is great and what really makes this movie entertaining. There's Seth Rogen as a living blob of mush, Hugh Laurie as a mad scientist turned giant bug, and even Kiefer Sutherland as a General.Plenty of laughs, especially thanks to Stephen Colbert as the President of the United States. Recommend it if you want something to watch with the family.

Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) is a woman who got upsized by a meteorite on her wedding day. B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) is a gelatinous, brainless creation after an experiment on a tomato went wrong. Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie) is a scientist who turned himself into a hybrid. The Missing Link (Will Arnett) is a creature found frozen and revived. And giant mutant larva Insectosaurus is a product of nuclear testing. The government has secretly collected these monster and now they need them to fight alien Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson).DreamWorks has gathered all the iconic 50s sci-fi B-movie creations, and formed a pretty cohesive team. It's surprising that the limited backstory allowed the characters to gel so well right off the bat. It's probably due the fact that these characters seem so familiar to us. It also helps that the actors do some great voice work. The story itself has one major problem. The movie is basically split in two parts. The pacing slows down dramatically in the middle after a high intensity fight at the start. However the comedy works well especially the brainless BOB. I think this team has good potential.
