This was a very emotional movie and I feel they did an excellent job with it. War movies are always emotional for me, but the addition of the bond between Megan and Rex made it even more so. Dogs can be such loyal and wonderful animals, they just don't live long enough. It was nice to see Chuck Schumer adopt a good cause for a change. Thanks to Megan and Rex for their service.

First, let me say I am a military veteran who served in combat, as well as a former law enforcement officer. I've "walked the walk," as they say, so when I watch a war movie I tend to be critical, though a good story always satisfies me.Megan Leavey is one of THE best movies I have ever seen. Knowing this was the true story of a Marine working dog handler and her experiences, I was anxious to see this film - especially because it featured dogs, specifically Rex, Megan Leavey's military working dog (played by an actor, of course).I found the portrayal of military life to be genuine, as was the war footage. Megan Leavey actually served two tours in Iraq, though the film only shows her being deployed once.I won't post spoilers, but suffice to say this is a highly emotional, triumphant film based on real-life experiences in the Iraq war. Megan Leavey was a hero, as was her dog Rex. Highly recommended!

Beside the actual true story, I think this movie was one of the few these days, that actually had my attention 100% of the time. The reality of it, the little bit of action, and the acting alone just had the perfect touch. I think there should be more movies like this, the more a movie can be down to earth and realistic, the better. This shows you struggle, and the day to day grind of many people today. Life is tough, but when you stop trying to find yourself, and start creating yourself, you'll see that, the only thing that was in the way was you. This is a movie to own for sure, and to watch more then once. One of Kate's best.

Based on the true story of Corporal Megan Leavey and her bomb sniffer dog Rex, it is a humble depiction of one's love and loyalty for their animal companion during times of war and the desire to find their place in society.After signing up for the US Marines, corporal Megan Leavey (Kate Mara) is paired with a bomb sniffing dog named Rex. Initially, Rex is hostile and aggressive toward any other marine who trains with him, but over time he and Megan form a special bond with one another and he eventually saves her life when the two are deployed to Iraq.The film is respectful to its subject matter and never feels too sappy or sentimental. It successfully shows that not only are humans risking their lives out in the Middle East but also the specially-trained dogs as well. Animal lovers will certainly be moved by the bravery of Rex as he risks being blown up from sniffing for explosives out in the Iraqi desert. Kate Mara gives a solid, believable performance in the title role, and her bonding scenes with Rex always feel genuine. The one major issue I have is that the film does follow the typical formulaic plot of someone sharing a bond with an animal that no one else is able to. However, considering this is based on a true story, it is excusable for the most part.I rate it 7.5/10
